Went this morning to Cricklewood & they didn't have many bargains. Lots & lots of lights but the lampshades were about £10 each & the light fittings were about £15+.
They did have a lot of clearance signs up but I didn't see any fittings under £15.0 -
The reduced price on the shelf edge label was reduced even further at the checkout!!
I've been to a few B&Q's in the last few days and I have also noticed this. There have also been instances when there have been lights without a reduced labels on them and they have also been reduced.
If a certain light has been sold out then it may be worth checking another B&Q as they may have not stuck the reduced sticker on them and there may be quite a few left as people are unaware they are reduced.0 -
I managed to get some excellent lamps since yesterday afternoon - there are plenty at Ilford, Romford, and Beckton. Moved into a new home and I have a lamp for every corner now ... the expensive lights seem to be moving fast but there seems plenty of choice. If a certain light has been sold out then it may be worth checking another B&Q as they may have not stuck the reduced sticker on them and there may be quite a few left as people are unaware they are reduced.
Thats very true - different stores had different lights still in stock and managed to get quite a variety including thick leather base ones, wooden base one and metal base ones ranging from original prices of £69 - £49 reduced to about £9.00. I am a very happy person tonight!!!0 -
In what way are they more environmentally friendly? You obviously know nothing about the manufacturing process and materials involved in making these things. They are never as bright as their 'equivalent' normal bulb, can't be used in dimmer switches and are not as reliable as advertised (the tube itself is fine, but the electronics controlling them are susceptible). Their operating temperatures are limited as well. Oh, and they don't fit in most uplighter light shades!
i know it makes me laugh how easily some people are brainwashed.....bit like the 'oh the car is the cause of all emissions brigade' - er no, if everyone stopped driving...public transport would come to a standstill and there would be less than 1% reduction in the worlds emissions.....cant you all see that this is an excuse by the governments to tax us more.....doh!!
also these so called energy saving bulbs cant be used in enclosed light fittings, microwaves, fridges, etc.....they also supposedly contain mercury in small amounts and also supposedly toxic gasesStevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -

Sale still going on!
I went on quite a bit of travelling this weekend.
In B&Q Acton they have lots of table lamps for £5 made from glass, ceramic & brass.
In B&Q Slough they have quite a few lamp shades at about £5 each, mainly fabric. Stay away from the table lamps though as I looked in the box & a lot of them were smashed but not labelled as broken!0 -
Lots of lamps reduced to £2.50 in B&Q Cricklewood today. They had loads of the table lamps with cream shades & wooden bases & a few big table lamps with glass bases & ceramic bases for £5.0

Well done Happy_red & royalsteve for your posts.
I have checked the light output with a camera light meter, both direct & incident, and normal bulbs are consistently 1 f stop brighter than its so called energy saving equivalent. To get the same light output you need divide the normal wattage bulb by about 3.5, so a 60 watt bulb needs to be replaced by an 18 watt, so called, energy saving bulb which clams to be equivalent to a 100 watt bulb, which it is not.
We are being conned by these so called equivalents, and when you take into account the energy used in producing these bulbs I doubt there is much of a saving.
