Fraud Phone Bill

Hi I was wondering if I could get some advice with an o2 bill of over £1100 that that a Scam artist managed to rack up in one day. I thought I had destroyed the SIM Card but obviously not. I really can't afford it as I am only 20 and on a basic wage. Can anyone help me? :(

Thanks,
Chris.

you will need to be more specific on what happened, mind reading is very difficult!
  • Sorry, basically I switched to Vodafone so I could get myself a new phone. However I never rang them up and blocked the sim card as I didn't realise I needed to do this. I just left the SIM card in my wallet and I managed to lose it.

However after phoning o2 they have said that I owe them over £1100 for this international phone call of which they there is no record of what number was dialled. I am apparently 100% liable for the debt. I rang and paid £275 today as I ran in to some money but I can't afford to pay this and I am worried that when it gets passed to a debt collection company I am going to be screwed!

    Any help would be brilliant!

So you never actually canceled the O2 service or transferred your number with a PAC?

What is the bill for? Is it continuing line rental and a phone call? did you lose the sim that was in your wallet?
  • Sounds dodgy tbh. If you switched to Vodafone from O2 I'm guessing you cancelled your contract with 02 as otherwise you'd have been paying 2 bills...
  • I never actually canceled the contract because it is meant to be running until April, I planned on paying two bills until then because I urgently needed a new phone. I lost the SIM Card that was in my wallet yes. Any suggestions?

So essentially this is a valid contract that has racked up a huge bill .
Is their any proof that it was not you that racked up this huge bill ??
We can all rack up a bill then claim it was not me guv .
Police been informed of the theft ??
  • That's the thing how can I prove it wasn't me? I mean obviously to o2 they don't know that I didn't make these calls but surely they can see that the fact it was over £1100 in one day to an 'Unknown number' even though for the last 2 years I have never added more than a £1 to my monthly bill for the odd picture message or something...

I haven't reported it to the police because I didn't know how to go about it. I'm really not good with things like this, what could the police do?
It was reported to my mums bank fraud team as the contract is in her name.

I didn't actually know I had lost my SIM Card as it was in my wallet and I never really used it, however when I checked after seeing the fraudulent bill it was missing...

    I'm a bit confused there.

Your original post says you thought you had destroyed the SIM card, then you have posted saying you lost it when it was in your wallet.

Either way, as you never reported the SIM card lost or stolen you will be responsible for the charges incurred up to the point it was reported lost.

The debt collectors will not come after you directly though.
As you mentioned the contract was under your mum's name, they will pursue her for these charges.
All your base are belong to us.
  • Yes the SIM Card was in my wallet and I used it from time to time to check my old texts. However I thought I had snapped it and threw it away but obviously not so I must have left it in my wallet.

That's the thing I didn't know it was lost so I couldn't report it.

So there is absolutely nothing I can do? I can't even get them to reduce the costs?
