it also looks like three will be introducing charges f9or 4g data at some point going on the new contract details I got

Care to elaborate on what "new contract details" you got?

It would seem to go against the wording on three.co.uk/4g which says:

"That's why we'll be offering access to our 4G network at no extra cost to our customers with a 4G device. No new tariffs or contracts required. That's 4G on Three at no extra cost."

"You'll be given the ability to access our 4G network between January and March 2014. Once that's done, and when you're in a 4G area, you'll get 4G on your existing plan. No extra charges, no hidden fees, no new contracts."

It's in the way they've laid out what's in your package........

    Package allowance etc

    You also have

    International calling FREE
    Premium rate FREE
    Top shelf FREE
    International roaming FREE
    LTE data £0.00 a month

And going by past history with three, and how they bill you, it wouldn't be set up like that if there weren't plans to add a charge sooner or later, maybe not for existing contracts but probably for new contracts etc.....

    An update for you.
My ultimate internet 500 plan is EOC at the end of the month and phoned 3 to give them the 30 days notice of cancellation. I cited the 2gb cap as the reason as was going to dump my home broadband.
Was immediately offered the old style one plan sim only with unlimited tethering for the usual £20 a month. I got the CSR to confirm it was unlimited tethering 3 times during the conversation.
He explained that the 2gb cap applied to all handset included contracts and the sim only plans we not affected.
