    thanks scarlett

i looked at this the other day and that's why i only think he'd get £48 carers allowance, and if he got income support carers allowance would be reduced accordingly.

i don't know how genuine carers manage, i know a lady in work who's had to retire to look after her husband and i can see now how she is struggling financially

Any benefits/allowances that his auntie gets would be hers, not his.

Please forgive me for saying so, but it really seems to me as though he may be intending to take advantage of your auntie as she has Downs Syndrome and try to get her money off her. Otherwise why would he be thinking he will get 'loads' of money?

I apologise wholeheartedly if I am wrong.

it's not my auntie, it's his side of the family.

i do question his motives slightly, even though i hate to do so really, i think he is thinking of the future when both aunties pass and he would potentially be left the house (mortage free) - although this in turn would cause a huge rift in his family as they are all very money orientated

although he is my ex, i still love and care for him dearly, and although it may seem that i am asking these questions through a selfish motive, i am not - he rely's on me for a lot of advice regarding financial issues and i would like to arm him with facts before he rushes into something.

I wonder if lisa's ex would be sanctioned for giving up his job or would it be a special case cause he is doing it to care for someone ?
He wouldn't be able to get Jobseekers allowance because he wouldn't be looking for work

he would get carers allowance and also be entitled to income support with carers premuim although the income support would be reduced by the carers amount. He would be entitled to housing benefit, council tax benefit, free prescriptions.
It doesn't matter what job you are doing, if you give it up to go onto carers, carers allowance automatically gives you entitlement to Income support.

Surely he wouldn't get income support etc if he's able to work????

As a carer it does not matter whether he can or can't work because as a carer he is not available for work.

if the house is mortgage free he wouldn't be entitled to housing benefit for that house would he?

also if he kept his current house and rented it out - he would be getting an income from that (although maybe just over his mortgage payments) so wouldn't this effect income support etc????

there's an awful lot to consider

Were his house is concerned I wouldn't know tbh as that would be dealt with on a case by case area with special considerations.

If the lady has substantial care needs then she would be eligible to use the Direct Payments scheme which would give her a substantial amount each week to employ someone, or even several someones, to care for her. As she has DS then it may well be that the scheme would be administered for her to ensure everything is as it should be. This could be what the ex is thinking about.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Why because I speak the truth ?

They have split up, what he does in his live is up to him, NOT for his ex to discuss on the World Wide Webb. :T

If the house is mortgage free there would not be any Housing Benefit. If he is getting an Income from his own house this is likely to reduce his Income Support.
