O2 to Sky broadband router settings

Not true, you can continue using your existing router.

Actually it depends on where you live, if outside of sky area, you will be sent a sky routerMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Recently had a similar conversation with Sky, in connection with my BB options now that the free period from O2 is coming to an end.
I'm on a line with 51db attenuation, but by tweaking my Netgear I can get a stable connection at 3db SNR.
This means my DL goes from around 4.5 Mbps to 6+ Mbps.
I was asking Sky if I could use my own router, the answer was yes, your Netgear *should* pick up the connection, in the same way that it picked up the original O2 connection.
Any problems and Sky techies would supply settings to help.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
new sky connections have the routers authenticating using MER as opposed to PPPoA/E, so to use another router (after they have migrated you over to their DSLAM) you would need to spoof the MAC address of the sky router into yours...right faff
hopefully you'll remain on the o2/be DSLAM for a while...
After reading something, I spoofed the Netgear with the MAC of the O2 Thomson, and speed did increase very slightly, I'm pretty certain of this, because at the time I was monitoring speeds very closely.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Not true. ALL who have migrated from O2 will be on normal PPPoA connections and on totally Sky DSLAMs. I don't think they are reusing any of the O2 DSLAMs.0 -

Really?? Have sky now given up on MER totally/partially then? Last I heard (been a bit sidetracked the last six months or so) they were actively implementing it.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I'm swapping over to Sky from O2, and had quite a chat with the advisor about routers and the difficulties that I read about regarding usernames and passwords.
I was told, could be BS, that Sky are being 'encouraged', possibly by greater powers,, to be more flexible with regard to people using their own routers.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Migrated and still using O2 router Sky router supplied is still in the box. ISP still shows as BE so presume Sky have taken over some BE -O2 DSLAMs !0 -

In the past I had a possible dodgey router of theirs and I cloned the info onto a Netgear one (theirs was a rebadged Netgear), but their word was that they could disable your account if they spotted it.
I've subsequently had two iterations of newer, faster router from them and haven't put the effort into cloning them.0 -
I don't really mind that Sky insist on their own routers; I guess it makes it more straightforward for them to support them, and since they provide the routers FOC, it's no difference to me really.

whilst that is cool for you and many others, people like me and spud want/need to tweak and monitor our lines for best performance... like spud I tweak my 50dB line down to 2.5dB snrm and it's perfectly stable, to get a sync speed iro 7400kb/sUsing a router that allows the use of such tweak/monitor software is essential
Sky using MER authentication on top of not freely giving out user/pwords is a right pain......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
