O2 to Sky broadband router settings

Hi I was with O2 broadband and they have been taken over by Sky. I was using my own router (not O2) because I needed something with better wireless range. I had to change some settings to get my router to work on the Sky broadband. Just a little concerned now I have done something wrong and could be running up a bill on my BT telephone line.

Would it be possible to run up a telephone bill like the old dial up Internet used to?

Thank you.

    No. But dont get too attached to the router your using, as when sky send out new one, will have to use that, as sky are notoriously bad for not handing out your connection details.

    Protocol/Encapsulation :- PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
    Multiplexing method: VC-BASED or VC-Mux
    (On some routers the above 2 settings may be combined as "PPPoA VC-Mux".)
    VPI = 0
    VCI = 38
    Username: install@o2broadband.co.uk
    Password: install

    if the will not give you your p/w or is different form above, use wireshark

    Yes made some changes like the above, but was just worried I have done something wrong and will run up a telephone call bill. Some of the changes What Sky advised I couldn't see where to make them. But it's working now, I am just worried!

    Thanks, do you know if a Sky are planning on sending ex O2 customers new routers?

    There is no analogue modem in a broadband router. It cannot run up a bill.

    Sky have told me I can keep using the O2 router. Have you been told different?

    You'll get a new router if you agree a new minimum term with Sky. If you just allow the automatic migration, you won't.

    Sky's branded routers have customised firmware locked to Sky, so some of the settings don't matter (ie. you can't change them).

    new sky connections have the routers authenticating using MER as opposed to PPPoA/E, so to use another router (after they have migrated you over to their DSLAM) you would need to spoof the MAC address of the sky router into yours...right faff :(

    hopefully you'll remain on the o2/be DSLAM for a while...

    I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Not true, you can continue using your existing router.
