agrinnall , knightstyle, hollydays, thanks for some helpful advice,

to the trolls, my only regret is putting something online which is about my personal health. Lesson learned, it will never happen again. (maybe I did not word my post well, but, I did not expect so many ‘experts’ who live in a perfect black and white world to come of the wood work)

And yes, thanks to Dr Google as you smartly refer to , it has helped me find an NHS doctor in my county who can perform the required operation to fix my back and chronic pain.

For many people the web has provided a valuable resource, and I have doctors, GPs in the past who have welcomed the provision of information to them. On occasion some people have discovered life saving procedures, or, just simple tips to help improve their health, lives, from Dr Google!

For the trolls, and for your information I had a letter of apology from the practice, and positive response from the parliamentary health service ombudsman

Finally to the trolls, you are wasting your time in replying any further, as I will no longer view, service this thread.

(I have copied all the useful replies to my hard drive, thanks to them)

I am in process of writing to my local GP practice a letter of complaint,

I have been suffering from acute and chronic lower left back pain for 2 years, SI joint pain. It has severely reduced my activity and I have put 2 stonne on.

I am newly registered, and :

    1. had new appt few weeks ago, doctor I saw (not my registered doctor, some other 'fill in appt/doc') was lacking in empathy, understatement of the year. I would go as far to say she was down right condescending
    2. she said she could not do anything for me, and said 'those' treatments are not available on NHS (without even looking into what treatments I had discovered on medical forums, and some forums saying that these treatments are available)
    3. also said she could not do anything regarding my fatty liver, as she did not have my medical notes. Now this may well have been a fact, but, why has it taken over 3 months to get hold of my notes,?
I am in pain from my liver ( I do not drink), and am trying to lose weight, but, I feel I am between a rock and a hard place, and my local PCT is useless,
I spent the past year going to local NHS hospital only to be told that it is not my hip causing the pain, time to go away. Well I knew that anyway.. (ok at time I should have complained then perhaps, but, I was so exhausted from all the appts, and getting messed around. Is now I have some clear thought, able to stand back, and see the merry go round I have been on).

I am process of drafting letter of complaint, can anyone give any advice, ombudsman to contact, other authorities I can direct complaint to?

    thanks in advance,

As someone disabled, who has to rely on our not so perfect NHS a lot, I really don't think a complaint will get you too far (although good luck with it).

As anyone disabled will know, much of life is wasted, bouncing from one medic to another, often being wrongly diagnosed.

Fatty liver, and deranged liver, can be caused by a few things, including obesity, and the fact that your records took so long to arrive is probably the chaotic system, rather than your new GP.

We have a multi doctor practice, and I don't really need their empathy of sympathy, I just need correct information and treatment. My aims, with the NHS, are set low, based on experience!

Funding is being cut, and many 'treatments' are no longer available on the NHS, as these local budget doctors are trying to cut back on provision.

Google can be good - but it can also be a mine of misinformation.

Good luck with it, but I think perhaps you might need to lower your expectations a bit, or find a private doctor.

Other than when I see my consultants, I find these poly clinics as good as a GP practice, and you can be seen that day.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Maybe your appalling attitude is the reason you get nowhere!!!!

Next time you go to the doctors ask them if they can do anything about that huge chip on your shoulder!

Nothing to say a doctor has to be friendly.
    What is the actual complaint?

If they're not friendly and empathetic, they're not following GMC guidelines and therefore their fitness to practice should be questioned.

I disagree. The op was pretty rude to people offering. genuine opinions. People tend to respond accordingly!!

I'd far rather my doctor be judged on his expertise than his ability to be friendly!

I'm not speaking strictly friendliness where they say hey how you doing etc, i also include in that description that he/she listens, and lets you speak and treats you in a professional manner. I promise you, he's not gonna do a good job if he doesn't do any of that.

Your last comment is rubbish. I have had a few abrupt consultants over the years, a couple bordering on rude and displaying little or no interest in anything other than doing their job. They proved to be superb at their job!
