Can my employer change my payday without notice??

Hi all,
bit of a sticky situation. My employer has what some may say a vendetta against me
I am due to be paid on 24/2/14, but at 4.55pm on Friday afternoon, told me that because I am leaving the company my pay date has been changed to 28/2/14 which is the Friday.
I obviously said that you can't do that without notice, and their attitude was tough luck. it has apparently been done to protect the business so I don't take a months salary and just leave on Monday.
I HAVE given 4 weeks notice, I never had the intention of not working it either.
I have tried to contact all of my creditors this weekend, but they are all saying it is too late. Which means my credit file is going to get absolutely hammered. My credit card company already said i will get a late payment fee and direct debit reversal fee alone.
/what are my rights in this situation? Is there anything I can do, because this has really messed things up.

Since you've already been told "tough luck" my advice would be to contact Human Resources and/or Payroll directly to respectfully explain your situation. Then see if you can come to some kind or arrangement.:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0 -
Thanks Jim,
I have already spoken to the MD (managed to catch him at 5pm) He didn't seem to know why this was how it was and suggested we sit down with HR on Monday. All that being said, it isn't going to stop late payment charges and I will most certainly be out of pocket.
Should I not just have been paid up until that date if there truly was an issue??0 -
The 24th is this coming Monday isn't it?
Then follow your MD's suggestion as you still have a working day to solve this issue, perhaps Payroll could issue an emergency cheque?:www: Progress Report :www:

If your notice is up on 28th February, it is quite feasible for your company to make your last pay date that day.0

My notice is not up until mid March thorsoak, so i have 3 weeks left...0

What's your contractual pay date? That determines whether or not it is a breach.
The thing is, if they pay you four days late you have little recourse than asking for late fees to be covered. To recover lost wages you would have to apply to an ET, and by the time you even managed to file, they would have paid you. Therefore, the only part left of your claim could be late fees and the cost of applying would negate this.
I suggest you appeal to the MD's good side.*** Thank you for your consideration ***0 -
Thanks justanopinion. My contractual pay date is the 24th of each month or the last working day before if this falls on a weekend.
I am part of a union and even if they agree to pay me asap, BACS will still take a few days to pay me. What is the cost of applying, late fees may total around £100 - £150. It is unlikely that I will have this reimbursed as I am leaving and I am not sure they will care. Is it worth speaking to my union about this?0 -
It's worth noting, I have not been at this workplace more than 2 years0

someone left on payday in the past basically and therefore took a months worth of wages but only worked until the 24th therefore putting the company out of pocket i believe. Never was my intention.
Who knows, maybe I am getting fired, but when i have already given notice?0
