I was VERY disappointed with III in my experience. Even after I left they were doing odd things like charging their quarterly fee even though my account had nothing in it!!!

I moved to Motley Fool and have a had a much better experience with them - Prefer their research centre too!

The name is meant to be funny, as really everyone thinks I'm a big softy.

I just forgot no one knew me when I joined the forum ;p

Unfortunately when they refunded me, they double refunded me as well - For a finance company, I was pretty shocked.

I'm sticking with HL for the time being.

This might well turn into a BA versus Ryanair debate

I have been looking at iii as a possible S&S ISA provider.

When looking at the 'clean' funds they nearly all specify huge minimum purchase quantities (10k to 500k ish). These are quantities that I would associate with the institutional class of funds. (The info is taken from the factsheets banner just below the yield)

However, a puchase info min figure is further down the fact sheet and typically shows £20. (This seem more akin to a regular monthly investment type figure).

Can anyone with some experience of what iii actually do for non-rgular investments clarify?

You can buy small amounts in any supported fund with an online broker. The minimum figures in the data sheet only apply if you are buying the fund direct from the manager. I had no problem buying "I" funds from II before clean funds became available.
