My removal company gave me 45 boxes for free. I also picked some up from the local Tesco by going in around the time the shelves were being restocked.0

Lots of ideas thanks
I will ask for 'free boxes' in my removal quotes! and at my local shop0 -
You often see them on Freecycle and Gumtree from people who have recently moved. You can get them from supermarkets too, but be aware that these are not always very sturdy, and may not be suitable for heavier items. You can also buy them from places like Staples."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

hi
mcdonald are fab 4 boxs, they are more than happy 2 give them 2 u as they just throw them away ,weve had loads off them everytime we move ,perfect size as well hth x0 -
Removal companies often sell used boxes very cheap, or occasionally give them away.0

The trick is to get boxes that stack so loads of the same size that are strong enough to take another on top.
heavy stuff on the bottom lighter going up, stack in a corner as you pack.
if you can find them that are 1/2 or 1/4 size so they don't get too heavy with things like books.
If you get lucky you might find some hanging boxes so the clothes move is easy.
In the old days computer monitor boxes were the best just the right size strong and hand holes for carrying.0 -
I got my boxes from 2 different Tesco branches and Asda, and also someone from freecycle gave me some.
The Tesco ones are all crisp boxes, they are big but quite thin although I have loaded them up I just have to make sure to hold the bottom just in case :rotfl:0 -
I commented on this but it seems to have disappeared.
I used to getting mine from supermarkets, but last year I bought them from a box company and found that having sets of ones which were exactly the same size and were sturdy made the moving a lot easier.
We're getting a removal company this time so hopefully they'll give us some0 -
Costco had some sturdy ones.0

I bought the Costco document storage boxes in Y2000, used them for a removal, loaned them to friends for their removals, used them for schlepping heavy stuff like books and LPs around the house and garage, and it has to be said - they're lasting well.0
