Does this help you win? On Twitter or Facebook, a competition might have 1000's of entrants, and then a few people commenting positively on the competition itself. Are these people more likely to be picked as they're more visible? Or does it not work like that?

Unless a comment is required it should make no difference (it will make no difference if the competition is run correctly).0

I have wondered the same - to that end, sometimes I leave a comment if I actually like the site/brand/product, otherwise I just do a quick RT if Twitter or Like&Share if FB and move on. I don't do a great deal of comping on either so my wins I can count on one hand, but people who leave messages may well enter 100's-1000's of these comps every week so naturally their 'win' % will be higher.
As mjm3346 says - if the comps are run correctly it shouldn't make a difference=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
it shouldnt really make a difference, but i think it may help if the comp runners are going to announce a winner in the actual thread you have commented on as it will show up in your newsfeed whereas if you just like then you may forget to go back and check who won , at least i think thats how it works lol im still not very twittery / facebooky freindly !!my name is Kit and im addicted to competitions , the what if is my driving force

Oh, I hadn't thought of that! I just assumed that if you won something on Twitter or FB, that they'd send you a message, or email... I wonder how many people have lost out because they'd won something, but never checked back on the original page to see if they were the winner?! :eek:0 -
I don't do FB or Twitter comps but always wonder why people put comments on other ones such as Heart comps, esp ones with sob stories.0

I've been wondering this - think it's the Interflora comps on fb that only ask for a 'like' but sure they always pick someone who comments..0

On Twitter, if they @ you as a winner ("Congratulations to @yourname, bla bla bla..."), you'll be notified automatically. If you're using a browser it's via the "Connect" tab at the top of the page, for example. You can also set up email alerts for notifications (@s, new followers, dms) in your settings.0 -
I just thought of a good reason to comment. Publications / shops / brands use comps to enhance their social presence, so if you leave a comment and increase their reader / consumer interaction, they'll be more likely to run more comps in future as they'll see them as a good investment.0

afaik it wont show up in the newsfeed unless they tag u in so prob wont matter if u commentWhat goes around-comes around0

I enter twitter comps regularly (can't comment on Facebook as I don't have it) and if it's something I like I tend to put something witty or that I like it as I have seen several people win because of a comment they have made, although this isn't supposed to be the case! I won some Haribo on twitter I think from a comment I made as they liked it, even though it didn't ask for a comment. I would say if you have the time and you want to win it then a little message can't help!
Hope that helpsThank you to all competition posters, your :A:A0
