Sky McAfee charges

Hi there

Not sure if this is in the right place.

I checked my Sky bill last night (paperfree - so don't often check it) and realised that Sky have been charging me £3 a month for McAfee for the last four years. I didn't agree to this or authorise it. I called them today to ask them to refund the money and they said they won't as it's a valid charge.

I've been buying McAfee from other retail outlets for the last 4 years, so not only have I been paying for something I'm not using, but I've been paying for it twice.

Do I have any rights here to get a refund?

Thanks

I have to ask why you didnt notice it sooner ?
  • Sky allowed you to download MCCafe on sign up, and it was free for a year, discounted on your bill. You were emailed 6 weeks before the charge came apparant. You could decline.

    BT also charge for McCafe

Why would anyone buy Mcrappy in the first place?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Hi luckycat99, to answer your original question the answer is no, the money is not refundable. And the reason why is because you unfortunately did not check your bill.

Correct, Sky have not mis-sold the McAfee since you obviously did nothing to prevent it being added and then compounded the problem by continuing to pay for it (for years).

Lesson is to check your bill each month, especially when you have agreed to a free trial which becomes chargeable after a period.

If it was 4 years ago how do you remember so well that you definitely didn't?
  • Yes. I wouldn't have agreed to this - it's not in my nature

  • Thanks for the feedback - sounds like I don't have a leg to stand on.

    Thank you

  • Just to add a little to this, McAfee has to be enabled by the customer it isn't added automatically.

The free offer will activate for first 12 months but after that, just like any free trial, you need to remember to cancel.
