When did renewing a passport become so expensive? Mine is out of date in another month, and I couldn't believe the price.

Where does this £7.25 figure come from? The OP said £72.50
I last renewed mine in 2009 and it was about this amount, certainly over £700 -

It's £72.50 and lasts 10 years. That's £7.25 a year. Less than 61p a month. Stick tuppence in a jar every day and you'll more than cover it.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I don't think there is an IQ test before you get a passport but maybe there should be.

As a wise old air steward friend once said, if you need instruction on how the seatbelt works on an airplane, you probably should not be out alone.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I was in our local Welfare Rights office yesterday and we were talking about how much doctors charged just to give you a letter after one of those Atos medicals, i said i should have realised before i went, 'cos they charge for anything they sign such as a passport application. The welfare rights guy said i shouldn't have paid that, they can do it for free.
So Op if you're going to get anything signed, they may be of help.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

A GP is quite entitled to charge for anything that is outside of their NHS contract. If they choose to do it for free that is out of the goodness of their heart rather than any entitlement.0 -
Signing passports is not part of the Drs NHS work and therefore they are free to charge whatever they want, or refuse to do it as many do now.
The actual list of people that can sign the forms is much broader than it used to be (and Drs dont actually appear on it, by request, but its only examples not a definitive list)0 -
I'm not saying the doctors don't have a right to charge, but because Mse is a money saving forum i'm pointing out a way that the Op, and any others may be able to save themselves the cost of a signature.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
