Before resetting your router can you take your PC somewhere else, say next door, and see if you still get the same problem?
Why ?
Are you telling me that this may be caused by my next door neighbour ?
I very much doubt it - my router is set up to only allow "trusted stations" to connect and I have checked and the only connections are known devices !!0 -
How do I change the DNS to OpenDNS?
I can add it in my router - but need a log in for the site (user name and password) ??0 -

I realise this wasn't too clear - no it's not caused by your neighbour. And I mean:
Connect your PC to a completely different router / Internet Service Provider. The way to do this is take your PC and just plug it into another router. I suggested next door for convenience. If you do go next door, disable your wireless connection to make sure you aren't still picking up your wireless. Plug it in - with a network cable.0 -

Sorry - my fault
I have tried the laptop via cable already (with wireless disabled) - no difference ......
As for using next doors router - I don't even know if they have one - we live in the back of beyond - broadband only appeared 3 years ago !!
I have raised the problem with my ISP (Talk Talk business) -they are normally quite good at solving issues !!
I think that I need to change the DNS setting but don't know how or to what ..0 -
Easy DNS test.
Bring up a cmd window (start, type cmd in search box and press enter) and then try to ping the web address.
If you gave us the URL or have a working connection somewhere else get the websites IP by pinging it and type that into IE, if it is a DNS problem then it will work fine when you use the IP. For example type in 162.13.48.82 and you will end up at www.moneysavingexpert.com
Yes - I can ping 162.13.48.82
and when I put this ip in to my browser - it instantly sees www.moneysavingexpert.com
Does this mean that my DNS setting is 100% correct ?0 -

no you don't need a user/pword for the site, in your router's DNS setup alter the DNS servers from the auto setting to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
that's you using OpenDNS......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

You don't need a password for OpenDNS; I assume you mean that you know the IP for the router (to type into the browser) but you need a password to get into the router. Access details for the router are probably on the device, or supplied on documentation that came with it. Last resort is to do a factory reset (usually a small hole in the back you can put an unbent paperclip in for 10 seconds, or up to 90 if that's not doing it), and look up online what the factory settings are for that model (IP, username/password).0 -
When I logon to my Router - I have Dynamic DNS as a sub-menu on the LHS - When opened - this page has the SERVICE PROVIDER "www.DynDNS.org filled in - with use a dynamic DNS as a tick box above and HOST NAME, USER NAME and PASSWORD - needed !!
Is this what you mean ?0 -
Have you tried a different browser?0
