I am having a weird problem with my browsers (IE11 ) on multiple PC's - my laptop and desktop !!
The problem is that when I try to open certain websites - I get a "network error" that brings up the PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED with a "fix connection" button - which, when hit - scans for errors - finds none - so I then close the page - moments later, the original requested page pops up
The problem only occurs, seemingly at random and not necessarily on the same website, time after time..
As I said - it happens the same on two seperate PC's - both wireless - could it be the router ?

Might be DNS lookup.0

Possibly. Or a problem with the internet connection. Or the phone line, causing drop-outs.0

I have flushed the DNS resolver cache - which made no difference
What is the next step ?
I can't see any setting on my Router (Netgear) - I assume that since it started to happen on both PC's at the same time - it must be the router (or an MS update) ?0 -
are you using avast's webrep perchance? it was causing this on W7 and Vista recently...disable webrep if it's there and try again......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

No - I am not using Webrep - I am using AVG
My laptop is on Win 8.1 and my desktop Win 7 - both IE11 - They both are acting the same way - hence my assumption that it is the router !!0 -
I have checked my router and see that the DNS is set to www.DynDNS.org - with no option (I need a login and password) - could this be the problem ?0

Easy DNS test.
Bring up a cmd window (start, type cmd in search box and press enter) and then try to ping the web address.
If you gave us the URL or have a working connection somewhere else get the websites IP by pinging it and type that into IE, if it is a DNS problem then it will work fine when you use the IP. For example type in 162.13.48.82 and you will end up at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Their was a reasonably big DDOS attack on a Hosting provider over the past couple of days that *might* have had an effect on the sites you were trying to visit.
Otherwise it might be a issues with your ISP and it's DNS / service.Laters

If you think it's the router, and aren't getting anywhere, you can always try resetting it to the factory settings and setting it up again. (Obviously make sure you have all the necessary info to hand to set it up again before doing anything.)
Other things I would try before doing that: another browser; temporarily disable firewall and other security; connect other devices if available (eg smartphone, tablet, laptop).
If you do think it's the DNS setup, try and put it on OpenDNS and see if that helps.0 -

How do I change the DNS to OpenDNS?
I can add it in my router - but need a log in for the site (user name and password) ??0
