May 2014 Grocery Challenge

I am back in for May, having run away from budgeting for a while going to start taking control.
So going to work to aim for a budget of £200 per month for 2 adults and 2 children (1 weaning).
Currently spending £100+ per week so for this renewed budgeting I will say put me down for £300 for May.
I run my month from 1st so will be doing my inventory and stuff in meantime and start planning my meals.0 -
I'd like to stick at £180 please. We are going abroad for a week, but self catering so will include holiday food spends, a first for me!

I'm just finishing my April GC and thinking I'm going to reduce significantly. It's been doable as I'm now thinking about wants v needs and so I'd like my May GC budget to be *drum roll* £200 :money:0

I'm in again, but have been dithering over my budget.....
When I set my budgets for the year 'way back when' the monthly figure for May came in at £244.18
But I also set myself a personal challenge (monitored on my spreadsheet) of trying not to spend more than two-thirds of each budget, which went fine in January but got slightly blown in Feb & March (looking good for April though).
In the last couple of weeks I've done a full stock take of my freezers () and have today started a full stock take of all non frozen/chilled foods ( ). Given what I've found I reckon I should be able to manage the month on no more than £65 for fresh milk, fruit and veg and a couple of 'incidentals' such as Fl0ra, but there are a few types of meat I'll want to stock up on if Costc0 put them on offer before the end of May (skinless and boneless chicken thighs and/or breasts and pork steaks) or get back in stock (NZ lamb steaks) if I can make freezer space for them. Plus OH and I are taking my two youngest GDs away for a long weekend which will mean picking up some stuff I don't generally keep in, and I've got his young niece here for a night the following weekend as she's coming to youngest GD's christening with us (though she's a good eater and I don't really have to worry about cooking anything different to normal for her - and she's only 3.5).
So I'm going to declare my budget as being my unofficial one (two-thirds what I'd planned to have), which means I'm signing up for £162.78 please.Cheryl0 -

Golly May already, where has the time gone. As always I'm trying to stick to a £200 budget for me and the other half, with the two dogs, the cat and all the vets stuff which goes with them.Nessy x
