  • How do you lovely GCers put 'big' items into your budgets? I've got my eye on a bottle of gin, but its the same as a weeks food budget (I live alone, its not super expensive gin or anything!!). Would you count it over several months (as it'd take me that to finish it, ideally)?

Thanks for the ideas for left ver pastry. It has already been frozen so don't think I can re-freeze it. I googled it and got an article with 10 things to do with leftover pastry. Going to try apple turnovers tomorrow!

I have been given a weekly supply of carrots until summer, and have run out of interesting ways to use them. Does anyone have any ideas or can point me towards a website that features them? They are from a market gardener so are very fresh, but are the ones that don't look good enough to sell, ie split, too large or too small. I really don't want them to go to waste.
    Thanks
    Jennie

You could blanch them and freeze them for future use?

    Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Had a spendy weekend - a combination of needing to pick up things for my OH, running out of things all at the same time, and just being in shops and seeing things I "need".

    Ended up spending £8.82 in Ald!, £4 in B00ts, £1.25 in Supe3rdrug, £4 in £land, £6 in A5da and £5.70 in W!lkos. All small spends, but £28.77 in total doesn't sound so small :S

ALSO small gripe about mysupermarket.co.uk, usually my fav website, but said A5da had the tins of Vaseline on offer, but no sign of the offer in store, anyone else had this?

ALSO ALSO used mysupermarket to look up best price for my toothpaste, got it better than half price in Sup3rdrug (£1.25), then went to £land the next day and found it there -.-

ALSO ALSO ALSO, how expensive has Sure Crystal deodorant got?? I used to buy it at £1/bottle and now the best offer is 3 for £5. I need to find something new, any suggestions for long lasting, no white marks deodorant? I tried the Ald! one but didn't think much of it.

Hope everyone's getting on ok :)

First weekend over and shopping done. Tesco and Lidl. Lots to tempt me and I succumbed. But I was impressed that I managed to come in a few pence off £60.
The deluxe range in Lidl was on full display. I bought some bread sticks and relish and a cheesecake. (Sliced up before putting it in freezer) Tesco cheese selection for £4. That will be good for a number of recipes. Also bought the meal deal two mains and two sides for £6. Had the pizza tonight which was topped with loads of veg.
Need to sort out a meal plan as its a busy work week and when I get home I'm too tired to think or cook.
Had a headache tonight so husband cooked while I had a sleep. Now I am wide awake.
Maybe a good time to sort out a bit of a plan while I listen to oh's snoring!

thanks to those who gave advice on my butcher/greengrocer dilema.

As of tomorrow/Thursday am going to walk into the village daily and get things from there, be nice if it changes my spends too!

Got a whole chicken that needs using up, was going to make a curry but we had one other day and ive run out of tomatoes, rice and no naan breads, so just going to have chicken and chips, saves me buying the extras today. will pop into sainsbobs to stock up on a few things when i go to butchers tomorrow!
Have a good day all :)

    Morning all!

I managed a nsd yesterday; very pleased with that. I was so tempted to go to a shop, but used all of my will power to stay at home. I made myself a spag Bol for dinner as planned, and I really enjoyed it, more than I've enjoyed a meal for a long time. Nothing special about it, but enjoyed nonetheless! Have some mince mix left, so might turn it into a chilli for tonight's dinner with oh, or I might turn it into a lasagne for me for tomorrow, and do something else for dinner tonight. Hmm, decisions!!

The work colleague I was supposed to meet with and work all day with today has postponed until Thursday, so I'm off to my favourite quilting shop this morning, and then I'll squeeze in a few hours at work this afternoon. Should mean a nsd, as I've no need for anything. Must check my stock of frozen chicken though - think I've run out of breasts. May be worth a visit to my friend's butcher!

    Have a good day all,

Have been shopping this morning and spent £20.20 in Mr As, but £9 of that is for beer so from a different budget so total for GC is £11.20 but still need to go to the farm shop later to get some peppers as they weren't very nice in Mr As. Couldn't get them on the way home as was too early (went shopping in Mr As at 6.30ish after dropping DH off at work!). Have updated signature.

Am getting hungry now so off to make myself a bacon & mushroom sarnie for breakfast.

    Denise
