Can I have some opinions/experience please?
I purchased my washer/dryer from Hotpoint just over a year ago (1st week in June 2006 I believe), and it has broken down FOUR times!! Due to this, and the fact that I was only covered by manufacturers warranty for a year, I renewed my warranty for a further year.
Well, the engineer came out (call out 5, on Wednesday) I have used the dryer this afternoon and it is making a loud, scary BANGING noise!!
I called them again and I said that enough is enough and it needs replacing. The lady said well, if I insisted on it being replaced, my warranty which I had just purchased on monday would be terminated as soon as the replacement was delivered!! I think this is really out of order, but maybe it's the norm? If it is the norm, can I take out another warranty on the new washer/dryer? I asked the woman, and she put me on hold and never returned to the phone!!!!!:mad:

Hello there I have just asked my partner who is a domestic appliance engineer. Firstly he is not suprised that it is a hotpoint this is very common. They are correct when they say that your current extended guarantee will end if you recieve a new machine. This is because the warranty is only for that particular machine and obviously if you get a replacement (new) this ends the contract/warranty. You should be able to get a new contract at your cost for the new machine. It does depend on the Insurance company that handles the warranty for example with an older machine quite often if the engineer states to the insurance company that the machine is knackered and they agree then you would not get a new machine but in this case you would recieve a refund on the warranty. It's a catch 22 I'm afraid as they will probably let you have a new machine but they will expect to keep the warranty money. Hope this helps.Fire up the Quattro!0

My other half says in his humble opinion and he has no vested interest the best one to get is a Miele. It is a German make that makes for no one else so far and they are first class machines that last forever, Only problem is they are the Rolls Royce of machines so are expensive. They may not suit your kitchen should you fancy one unless you have a concrete floor as wooden floors transmit to much vibration.Fire up the Quattro!0

Our Hotpoint washer/dryer has broken down 2 in 12 years, clearly the newer ones aren't as well made as the older ones...The money, Dave...0 -
CharleneUK wrote: »Thanks for that! I'd prefer to get a refund on the warranty and get a new machine, as this one is clearly not doing the job!! What a rip off  If i'd insisted on a replacement before the original warranty was up, I bet they would have said no!

Persue the retailer on this, get a refund on the warrentie its not worth the paper its written on,
Look at the trading standards web site, you can claim for damages or compensation up to 6 years in england, its reasonable to expect a washing machine to last more than one year and i would say you have a good case as it has broken down 5 times in 13 months, ignore the fact they will they will try and quote a one year garentee, read up on the trading standards web site the machine is clearly not fit for purpose nor has it lasted a reasonable period of time. You can threaten small claims court for a replacement or perhaps a partial refund, you have given them the opportunity to fix the machine on 4 occasions and they have failed to do this properly. You will win if you take this to court and they know this, they do not want the cost of putting up a defense as this will be more than what the machine is worth so should cut you a deal, make sure you get what you want. Do not touch extended warrenties they are worthless.
by the way who sold the machine to you??"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -

I'm going to call up and cancel the warranty as I haven't had the paperwork through yet (takes up to 28 days apparently) nor have they deducted the money from my account.
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I purchased it from 24-7 electricals, however, they did not have the colour I wanted in stock, so I had to liaise directly with Hotpoint who eventually delivered it to me. Will see what they say about all this, as it's just ridiculous "I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

It sounds like you have a lemon and I would definitely get it replaced. It is a shame because nearly all our products are Hotpoint and, apart from the above incident they have all been great.
