We are with Anglian water, and we seem to have one of the highest charges for them. I keep reading about charges for other areas, (we are in N.E. Lincs), and they are way lower than ours. I'm just so confused about it.

We are in a 3 bed semi.

Our bill for 2013/14 is £490.77. I've looked at the charges for 2014/15 and they've gone up between 3.85 and 3.86%. Our new bill will be £509.68, and that's with discount for our surface water going into a soakaway!

But, it could be even more, as they only give one price, with nowhere to put your postcode in. And, when I sent an email asking about our monthly installments, they told me our first payment will be £51.02. At the moment, it's £49.07.

Are there any of you with Anglian bills as huge as ours? I really do need some comparisons, so I can tackle Anglian Water about it if need be.

Also, for people with other water companies, what are your bills for the year?

I really don't understand what's going on, because as I was searching online about this, and one of the bosses from Anglian was talking about the charges for 2013/14, and he said the rises for that year, would take the bill up to an average of £380!? And ours came in at £490+.

Thanks,
Candy.

I presume you are on rateable value ? , so you pay a set fee dependent on the RV on your property, anyone else with the same RV figure will pay the same as you in the AW area

Well yeah I'm on RV, that's why I said for people who are unmetered.

I know it depends on the RV rate but people are charged differently in different areas. My daughter lives about 10 miles from us, and they are in a 3 bed and they pay less than us.

Your house will have a particular RV value when it was assessed many years ago , just because someone has 3 bedrooms does not mean it will be the same RV value as yours , it was based on rental rates, your house obviously was rated higher than your daughter as it could potentially be rented out for more

How many live in your 3 bedroomed home?

Is it worth getting a meter - you can go back to RV within 12 months if it's cheaper for you so you'll have the best of both worlds.

Yeah well, my thread isn't really about the RV rate, as I know all about that. The charge increases are the standing charges.

I just wanted to know what other peoples bills are to do a comparison, and not only Anglian.

The Anglian water charges are here:

I cannot understand how your 2014/15 bill comes to £509.68

The structure of charging varies across the country. For instance my company (Severn Trent) have no standing charges for unmetered customers and all charges are solely based on the RV of the property.

I think it must be the way Anglian Water word it.

    Our current bill:

    Water - RV 115 x 20.03p = £23.03.
    Standing charge - £226.27.
    Total: £249.30.

    Sewerage - (foul only) - RV 115 x 20.28p = £23.32.
    Standing charge - £218.15.
    Total: £241.47.

    New prices:

    Water - RV 115 x 16.82p = £19.34.
    Standing charge - £237.50.
    Total: £256.84.

    Sewerage: RV 115 x 17.17p = £19.76.
    Standing charge - £233.08.
    Total: £252.84.

I know the charges vary but for some reason they didn't show the areas, and as I said, there is no box to put your postcode in.

I think we could be paying more than £509.68 because I was told our first payment is £51.02, and the first one is only more usually by a few pence. This means we could be paying £ 510 a year. I know, yeah, we don't have a meter, my point is that for the bill to go up by £ 19 to £20 a year, is very high.

I just wondered if this is happening across the board this year, with Anglian, and other water companies.

Un-metered charges are absolutely fixed for the year ahead. The increases varied across the UK.

You have a low RV, but because of the very high standing charges with Anglian your bills are high.

In my area(Severn Trent) with an RV of £115 you would pay a total of £202 for both sewerage and water! This is because there are no standing charges so your bill would be 115 x £1.75.

For houses with a high RV Anglian would be cheaper than Severn Trent.

I was just shocked at the increase. Last year the bill went up by £5 for the year, so was reasonable. I just wonder if they're doing now, what the gas and lecy companies are doing. People on meters though might get a shock too.

The price increase 'is' too much, and I'll be letting them know that and give them my opinion on it!

  • Candy53 - The cost in Skegness was £535.61 for a three bedroom terraced house with Anglian Water for the year 2013/14 based on rateable value of a house in council tax band A, (ie not metered).
I think Anglian's average of £380 probably is based on overall costs including metered supplies and of course some people are out at work all day and choose to use as little water as possible to save money.

As stated in another post you can opt to try a meter for a year and then change back to the non metered method if you want at the end of the year, assuming that the metered supply is more expensive.
