So it was new to you.
We get that.
Can you not understand that what he's complaining about is the fact that he was given incorrect information?
It's quite simple.
Can't see why you're getting uyour panties in a bunch, tbh. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I did not make this purchase.
I buy a great deal from all over the world (mostly from China and South Korea) but use courier services, as I now do domestically.
So all this buying globally, yet you find the import rates a surprise?
Or do couriers not have the same VAT levels set by HMRC?0 -

I found the additional cost of RM fee (who I don't use and am extremely grateful to other members of the forum explaining the full details) and Import VAT of c £20 extremely high for a necklace that only cost my daughter £30.
The seller's declared 'price' of $80 now explains this.
My purchase of electronic components from the Far East is handled by an agency, and I know of every penny cost incurred, not that this is really anyone's business here but my own.

and you came to post this 'warning' with no real information?0 -
Yes, everything exactly the same. Sent by USPS on the USA side as usual. Same method of posting. It came Parcelforce on this side, but so have the last 8 packets - all at £8 admin fee.

It was definitely not express. Maybe it was a mistake?0

Custardy, why do you insist on being such an nasty, annoying, little troll?
We know you were once a postman and that this seems to have been the pinnacle of your lifetimes achievements. You do occasionally post some useful information.
But it this case you are vindictively and pointlessly ridiculing someone who came to post a simple warning based on information he had been given at the post office.
If nothing else that warning could serve to alert people that they need to research and consider charges when buying items from abroad.
Why don't you just shut up and let a useful warning stand instead of wittering on incessantly in a vain attempt to impress people with your knowledge of postal rules, regulations, and charges? Isn't there a site somewhere for postal anoraks? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
One of the more interesting and useful comments was from Heliflyguy stating "Or if the seller is unhelpful you can claim the overpayment of VAT back from HMRC, exactly the same thing has happened to me."

Found the post I made on how to do it....

Check the address and phone number first though.0 -
I'm sure it's been £15.00 for quite a while now. I wanted to order a pendant from the USA on eBay but had to make a mental note to keep order below £15.00. We'd been caught for customs duty on a model plane kit my husband ordered from USA via eBay and it cost him dear. So we're now very wary of overstepping that magic £15.00.0
