Now has anyone already had trouble finding uniform out of stock?

no navy trousers of any kind for ages 3,4,5 and 6 years. The assistant went to check the recently arrived delivery but still there was nothing of what I had come for.
I found last year that age 3. 4 or 3-4 you have to buy the minute you see it. My DD ended up in some too big age 5 pinafores cos I couldn't get enough age 3-4 ones. I have recently passed on the smaller items to a woman I know whose daughter is starting in nursery in September, cos I know from experience how had they were to find. DS changes school to several different colour options one of them being navy and I've also found this a hard colour to find. i don't envy you the task of finding small sizes in navy. Have you tried looking on-line is all I can think to suggest.

be thankful. the high school i went to had a full regulation uniform, the whole thing was specially designed for my school including pe kit. when i started in year 7 it cost my mum £250 for the uniform! luckily i stopped growing in year 8 and my blazer (£85) lasted 4 years!!

I worked out that she needed two blazers (£52) two trousers (£48) two skirts (£48) four shirts (£64) Two poloshirts (£28) and two shorts (possibly another £28)
 WHY does she need two blazers and two sets of PE kit? They do get slightly less messy as they get older, in general ... :rotfl:

Seriously, my boys have only ever had one blazer each. They take it off when they get home from school each night, and I wash it every weekend. I know that DS2's wasn't allowed inside the house in summer, had to be left in the porch where it repelled burglars and wildlife, but if he'd been fussed I could have washed and dried it overnight, even without a tumble drier.

And anything which doesn't have to have a pre-embroidered logo can be bought elsewhere at much more competitive prices.

PE kit can be more of a problem because after rugby or football the socks have to be washed before they can be worn again, but again we only ever had one of what was needed. And if it was going to be needed more than once in the week, it's THEIR responsibility to let me know that I need to wash it! Not school, but DS3 plays cricket for the local club, and only has one set of cricket whites which he likes to have clean EVERY time he wears them. That means that if he has a game on Monday and nets on Wednesday, HE has to get his whites to the wash on Monday night! If he doesn't, his problem not mine.

Any ideas what to do to bring the cost down. I saw that the uniforms are badgeless and the shop assistants said something about stitching the badges on in the shop.

    What should I do?
Do they sell the badges 'loose' as it were, or can you get them from school? If you can, that's another part of your answer. Also check whether the school has a second hand uniform shop and go and raid that before term ends ...

Trousers and skirts won't have badges, so no need to fork out those prices, I doubt many people on here would pay £24 for a school skirt (correct me if I'm wrong folks!).
And tell me they're not charging £14 for a pair of shorts??!! Is the school all that strict about what they wear for PE?

At ds2 & 3's school the trousers & skirts do have the school name embroidered into them so the only place you can buy them from is the school & they are £15.50 each!

I was in M&S yesterday and had to order trousers for DS2 as he is growing like a weed!

But they said to me that their 342 is finishing on 19th July, however if you order your stuff because they do not have it in stock then they will still honour the 342 offer regardless of when it is delivered.

    HTH someone else too

I agree with Elliesmum about pinafores for little girls, they are more practical and easier for them to wear while running about etc., things don't come untucked.
  • Last week I went to our local matalan and they are doing half price uniforms got ds some shorts £2.50 a pair and t shirts pack of 3 for £2 something also got stepdaughter some Polo shirts £2something for 3 DS had matalan trousers for nursery this year black ones and they have lasted really well and still look good he had adams polo shirts this year they are really good quality but they are covered in stains paint and the like which will not come out have held their shape and colour (bright yellow) really well though.
Have had to order alot of his uniform this year costing about £80 and that is for 3 x jumpers 3 x poloshirts reversible school coat pe kit pe bag school bag and book bag judging by some prices that isn't too bad will be passing ds uniform on to my Bfriend whose son starts at nursery this year.
MY stepdaughter will have had three different uniforms in three years the school where she is now used to have red uniform then they changed to purple last year and this year her mum and hubby have decided she will be better off in the school thats closer to her (just accross the road in fact) their uniform is bright yellow and navy blue

  • I have always bought school uniform for my sons from BHS.

The trousers are hardwearing and a good fit and some have even lasted well enough to pass down. Polo shirts are soft and wash well and are also longer in length than most supermarket brands (both boys have long bodies!). They also do larger sizes.

The best thing though is that BHS sell uniform all year round.

I have given up on M&S trousers after several pairs ripping open between the legs, one pair after only a day's wear. I now buy anything but M&S trousers. In contrast, all their other garments like skirts, shirts and tops are hard wearing and good value. I've just finished buying uniform (minus trousers) for 3 kids using their 3 for 2 offer and quidco cashback.

Ooops I have spent the last 6 years moaning at my son cos he kept ripping his m&s trousers between the legs!! Now I feel awful lol :rotfl:
