I've found M&S boys trousers too 'skimpy' and my middle sons not a big lad by any means - he's smaller than most of his mates. Asda aren't bad for the price, but the seam allowances aren't large, so tend to rip if the lad pulls any extreme 'moves'. We're currently trialling some Tescos, purchased under their 3 for 2 offer.........

I have given up on M&S trousers after several pairs ripping open between the legs, one pair after only a day's wear. I now buy anything but M&S trousers. In contrast, all their other garments like skirts, shirts and tops are hard wearing and good value. I've just finished buying uniform (minus trousers) for 3 kids using their 3 for 2 offer and quidco cashback.

I can never get my boys size 14-15 black pants from my local Tesco store. Matters not when I try, they just seem to either sell up quickly, or just never stock them. I do try too cos I work behind a local store.
Went to matalan and got 3 pair yesterday £7 each!!! So hunt over now!!

Always put my son in asda trousers and polo shirts they last well and wash well, the sweatshirts I get from sainsburys they are much better than asda and at £3 a sweatshirt you cant go wrong, esp when the school charges £11 for 1 just because its got a small logo on it

Can anyone suggest a stockist for age 12 upwards white soft cotton polo shirts ? everywhere has them up to 12, then it seems to be the "proper" shirt type for older. My daughter loves the soft ones (so do I, no ironing!) Thanks

right well i've ordered it all from m&s i think i'm just so exctited about theprospect at seeing it all i was impatient and went and just ordered it.

It came to £54 that was for the following:
    2 stain defence skirts
    6 scallop neck polo shirts
    1 checked summer dress
2 cardigans (lightweight ones not the thick cotton ones)
3 stain defence non iron trousers
    1 pinifore

didn't think that was a bad price for all that stuff really. thats basically it all sorted apart from what i'm gonna get for the school ie pe shorts and book bag and obviously shoes nearer the time.
I can't wait for it all to arrive now

my daughter starts year 7 in september and we went down to local shop (the only one in town for her new uniform. The prices were as follows,

Blazer (suit less trouser) = £26
    Trouser and Skirts= £24
White shirts (suppose to be nice and fashionable fit) £14
Sport Polo shirts (for PE ) = £14

Didn't check what they were charging for shorts.

I worked out that she needed two blazers (£52) two trousers (£48) two skirts (£48) four shirts (£64) Two poloshirts (£28) and two shorts (possibly another £28)

Now this is works out very expensive and with school bag, socks, tights, and shoes to come - OMG
Any ideas what to do to bring the cost down. I saw that the uniforms are badgeless and the shop assistants said something about stitching the badges on in the shop.

    What should I do?
  • Tesco's are ideal for tall thin children. The skirts and trousers have adjustable waists so you can buy an age bigger and take the waist in.
Nobody has mentioned Woolworths or Matalan yet. I have found them both good.

Didn't the government bring in some kind of new rules for schools that to make uniforms more accessible they had to be available at reasonable prices not just in one store???

My God....anyone with a few kids at the same school would have to remortgage to kit them out at those prices!!

Prob is easily solved though - looking at those items the only thing you really need the badge on is the blazer. Trousers and skirts won't have badges, so no need to fork out those prices, I doubt many people on here would pay £24 for a school skirt (correct me if I'm wrong folks!). White shirts you can buy ANYWHERE. Likewise with Polo shirts.

And tell me they're not charging £14 for a pair of shorts??!! Is the school all that strict about what they wear for PE?

Almost right. This is currently under discussion.

Now has anyone already had trouble finding uniform out of stock?

I went to Tesco Dover today to find some PE shorts and T shirts and a cheap spare pair of trousers for September. There were NO size 11 or 12 years PE kit in stock and no navy trousers of any kind for ages 3,4,5 and 6 years. The assistant went to check the recently arrived delivery but still there was nothing of what I had come for. She said that the 3 for 2 offer was so popular that they had already run out of stock for certain sizes!! So well done Tesco for running out of uniform when they have only just started to re-stock - Dover Tesco has virtually no uniform at all in stock once September arrives and this year low stocks at their peak selling time. I just hope they get some in within the next 3 weeks, as we are off to Russia for the Summer holidays so no chance of stocking up there.
