I'd better pop back and get an invisible zip foot!

Can anyone recommend some lovely places to find fabric? I find most of the online shops old fashioned and uninspiring, though I have found some lovely ones on 'dragonfly fabrics' and of course lusted over liberty fabrics.

You could try Abakhan - lovely place to visit, used to be called El Kilo as it sold most fabric by weight. Years since I visited the shop, still have a stash of curtain fabric I never got round to making up. :o

The dress is underway! I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to attempt the zip though without the right foot, though, so I'm going to pop back to the sewing shop for one tomorrow!

    Good luck m&m!

I hemmed the walkaway dress today, still waiting for the bias binding to arrive so that I can finish it.

Will you treat us to a pic when you've finished?

I've tried mine on (without the back done up obviously) and it fits well but seems a bit shapeless. I think that's just the pattern. I've done dress A but B, C and D have darts in front and back and I'm wondering if I should have darted the front and back and if there will be any way of doing that when I've finished?

What I wasn't warned about was the difference in sizing. Thank goodness I measured myself or I would have ended up with a dress only DD (7) could wear! I was sat in size 8 jeans cutting out a size 14 pattern

Patterns are always different to dress sizes. One off the things I teach at the beginning of my course. Usually two sizes different.
99% of patterns are from America and their sizing is very different from ours.
Always go for your highest measurement and alter down accordingly. It's easier then trying to make something bigger.
Nobody will know the size you make as you won't be putting a size label in afterall!
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Ignore the sizes, they bear no relation to bought clothes.

Invisible zip and zip foots coming tomorrow. today I might just have bought another pattern and fabric. Don't even know how this one will turn out!

I added darts front and back in the end as I won't wear it if it's shapeless. My only concern is that it'll be a bit bland so I'm wondering about adding a collar, a belt or something else. Might post a pic at some point for ideas

Tonight I got lost on sewing blogs. Has anyone else come across myhappysewingplace.com ? She sews vintage patterns taking inspiration from museums, films and patterns she comes across. Such a lovely website!

I have finished the Walkaway dress and wore it to my WI meeting tonight. Photo will be a long time coming as I can't upload it from my Kindle Fire, but I am pleased with it, especially as it was only intended as a toile/practice piece but I liked it so much that I finished it properly. :)

Oh Pixie you really must find a way...I'm curious! ;)

I treated myself to a full set of snap on foots which arrive today so I can get on with my dress. No reason why I shouldn't finish it today. Just hope it bloody fits. It looks like it will but I haven't put the zip in yet.
