I finished making a needlebook. I used fabric to match my other sewing items. I lined the needlebook, couldn't find pink felt so I used some fleece type fabric from my stash.

My sewing machine has a cabinet but I was still worried about dust so I decided to make a cover.

I cut the fabric big enough to fit the sewing machine pedal in as well. Then I decided to make a separate bag for the pedal. Hence pleats in the sewing machine cover for a better fit. No one will see the cover as the machine will be covered up when down in the cabinet. I will take the cover off when I raise the sewing machine to working height. I lined both the cover and the bag.

I am storing the Fat Quarters Packs I bought yesterday on the shelf in my sewing machine cabinet.

there are some lovely things on here!! hopefully this is the correct place for me to post a shirring problem?
Never shirred before. I bought shirring thread, hand wound it not very tightly onto bobbin, dropped bobbin in and tested it out. The fabric looks just a tad puckered. Not shirred in the slightest. I have ironed it and steamed it and still nothing. I have altered all the tension and no change. There doesnt seem to be a way to alter the bottom tension (brother xl220) what am i doing wrong can anyone tell me?

I find that the first row never looks very ruffled it seems to 'come together' when you have done a couple of rows. If you have tried this my only other suggestion would be to try winding the bobbin a little tighter, although I've never used a Brother I actually wind my bobbin by machine on my Janome and it seems to get it at the right tension.
    Hope that Helps

    I've been Money Tipped!
You don't mention how many lines of shirring you've done, as ajlee says, the more lines you do the more Shirred it looks.

Also a lot of brother machines need a screw tightening in able to shir. If you google you will find some tutorials which will tell you exactly how to do this. It's very precise how tight/loose the screw is.
If you plan to shir a lot, It is reccomended you buy a spare part (im sorry I can't think if the name) and have one normal for sewing and the spare (with screw tightened) to use exclusively for shirring.

I own a brother machine, but was lucky that my screw didn't need adjusting.

Here is a Hippychick girlie that I've recently sewn. She is hugging her pets and wondering if there is room for any more :D

Gosh I've not been on here in a long time. I'm sewing alterations at the moment and so nothing much to post. Except work stuff!
My recycled clothes are now in a shop in Bedford, which opened lady week. So time will tell if it's a success or not.
Must check in more often and get inspired again!

hi I would love to join you all I have a sewing machine and am a very novice sewer, but would love to be able to make nice things for myself and home. I have enjoyed looking at all the lovely things you have made on here. I have made a baby patchwork quilt which I haven't given anyone as yet, but we have friends who are trying for
another baby and the quilt will be appreciated I am sure. It took me many many hours to make. I like the look of the little reading bags a nice idea too :)
Have a nice weekend everyone. Margaret

 Hello I would love to come and join you all :D

I have had a sewing machine for years now and I want to start putting it to good use! In the past I have made a few simple things that have been both machine and hand sown but I am ready for more of a challenge.

Over the next few months I am hoping to go on a pattern skills course so that I can start to make my own clothes and today I got the Great British Sewing Bee book from the library which is filled with lots of gorgeous patterns.

Currently I have all the squares cut for my DDs quilt so once I have got that finished I will be moving onto something harder :D I also have many many bots of material that I have gathered over the years so I need to figure out what I can make with them.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
