Tesco motorola g

Have just taken the plunge with my first smartphone, and bought the motorola g from Tesco.
I hope you can help me with the next steps.

1. Tariff.

I intend to use it for browsing the internet and some calls / texts. Would like to have 500MB data, and not overly fussed about text or call limits as I don't think I'll go over them. Would prefer pay monthly rather than 12 months contract.

I've found three options; would you warn me off any of them?

a) Virgin £7/mth, 150 mins - unltd texts - 500MB
b) Talkmobile £7/mth, 250 mins - 5000 txts - 500MB
c) Ovivo Freedom 0, £20 up front; free for 250mins, 300 txts, 500MB.

I'm not familiar with Talkmobile at all so don't know what their coverage is like. Presently with Virgin.

2. Unlocking. Assuming I don't go with a Tesco tariff (cheapest pay monthly is £10 for the 500MB allowance), I'll need an unlocking code. I gather you can do this through ebay. Are there any particular dealers to use or avoid?

Thanks.

Talkmobile and Ovivo both use Vodafone's network. Ovivo is fine but data speeds speeds can be slow. You have just missed their £18 offer by a few hours.

    Thanks, IZ.

I've seen the threads on ovivo data speeds - might just stay with Virgin for the first few months.

Does anyone know if I can just contact Virgin and ask them to send out a micro SIM for my existing phone number - or would they send out a new SIM and I'd then have to transfer my old number across?

I got my code from this guy on ebay, the code arrived 15 minutes after I paid for it

Okay, have now got my unlock code. The instructions said to put an "unaccepted" sim into the phone, switch it on, and I would be asked for the code. However, the Tesco sim is already in the phone and when I switched it on it worked immediately without asking for a code.

Am I right in thinking that I need to wait for my new network sim to arrive (once I've decided which one to go for!), and then use the unlock code?

Yes that's right, the phone is locked to Tesco network, once you insert another SIM from say Three or Tmobile then it'll request an unlock code. Carefully enter the code you got and then it's unlocked for all networks.

Before commiting to any network check coverage where you live.

I've spent the last couple of days browsing on the phone via home Wi-Fi, and I'm sure that when I got the phone, you swiped right to access the Apps and Widget pages. The manual says you do this, too.

However, I seem to have done something to remove the link between the Apps / Widget pages and the swipe to the right. I've factory reset the phone, to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas of what stupid thing I might have done and can now undo to fix this? The manual and Q&As don't answer this point!

    Please??

You swipe to unlock the screen and then tap the circle with six dots in it to access the stored apps !!

Thanks, Keith. I know that I can access the apps through the icon, but after unlocking the phone, you can also access them through swiping the home page to the side. Or, at least, I could until some point yesterday ... ! Now I just have a series of 5 'pages', with the home page in the middle, and two either side which just have wallpaper.
