open plan lawn and dog muck

well I hope the title says it all.

were open plan lawns where we live in the cul de sac and new neighbours have moved in, and they've got one of those tiny little !!!! su dogs.

which they let out regularly, no daily to run round the close, and it's taken to doing it's business on my lawn right by my front door, I've had a do with them before about it, and the young lad says when u see it do it, come and tell me and i'll move it,

As if I work so I don't see it but mrs x next door sees it, as she's a pensioner and sits at her chair near the window and sees it, but she doesn't want me to let them know it's her who's seeing it doing it's business on my lawn.

doesn't matter cause today I saw it from upstairs by the time I came down the dog had gone, I knocked on the owners door not in, forgot about it, and it ended up granddaughter not for the 1st time stood in it, running over our grass to knock on our front door, resulted in me going over and having it out with the owner, and she said I had to prover her dog was on my lawn, well I saw it with my own eyes, not enough she says.

so basically I want to know what can I put down to stop this dog doing it's business on my lawn?

agreed. donts dont know boundaries. Having no fencing will mean dogs mess in garden, street rubbish in garden etc

isnt it a bit dangerous for the dog to be running around in the street ?

do they not have a secure back garden for him to run around in ?

Pick it up and give it back to them.

Seriously, it's anti-social behaviour, they can't just let their dog out to poop at random without picking it up. There should be somewhere on your council website for reporting dog fouling.

You shouldn't need to put a fence up just because other people are thoughtless, that's a ridiculous suggestion when you know exactly whose dog is doing it, their dog, their responsibility.

    Disgusting people.

Notify your local Dog Warden - it is an offence to allow a dog to foul without picking up (Clean Neighbourhoods & Environmental Act 2005).

Where I live all the gardens are open plan and quite a few people walk their dogs offlead. The dogs run all over the front gardens and often mess on them too. Quite a few owners don't clear up - it's disgusting.

I keep trying to catch the person who lets their dog mess all over my grass but so far haven't managed to. One thing I know, the dog must be a big one!

I have no advice except to say try to take pictures or if you see it "in action" squirt it with a water pistol. Pick the poo up and dump it (tip it out of the bag) on their doorstep.
The reason for the post is that I can't believe how some people can go round letting their dogs run riot in other peoples gardens and crapping where they want and not picking it up! What's the matter with these people. They need their noses rubbing in it. And yes, I do have a dog and every pair of trousers and every coat I wear has poo bags in the pockets. Apologies for the rant but people like this give us considerate dog owners a bad name. Shame on them.

I totally agree. I have 2 dogs and have had dogs just about all my married life (over 30 years). I too have pockets of tops, trousers, jackets etc all full of poo bags. I once used the couple of bags I had and my dog decided to do another poo. I was in complete panic as to how to clear it up and saw a carrier bag stuck in a hedge a bit further down the road. I got it out and used that.

Lots of people seem to let their dogs mess everywhere in the area I live - pavements, front gardens. It drives me mad and a couple of time my dog has stepped in it which is lovely!

Give the dog warden a ring and he'll go and have a polite word. It is an offence to allow a dog to foul in someone else's garden plus it's an offence to let a dog run around out of control. (Even if it is tiny, it's still a dog.) At £40 per fouling incident it soon mounts up and if it does end up in court it only needs one witness...well, that's the law in Scotland anyway.

Be warned though, this will !!!! your neighbour off mightily. One of my neighbours had two dogs which she allowed to foul behind my house twice a day...it's a children's play area. After several approaches from many neighbours I wrote the necessary email to our dog warden, he came round and looked at the 30+ deposits on the grass and went round to talk to her. In fact he had to do it twice and she was nearly charged with abusive behaviour and assault the second time, which was entertaining for all of us pretending not to watch from behind the curtains. She did stop the dogs fouling though and we survived the death glares until she moved six months later. I still see her down at Tesco sometimes and she still gives me the evils. :D

  • I too have the same carry on here, our front is open plan and someone down the street (I can't figure out which house the dogs come from or I would have rang the warden) at random times lets their two dogs, without collars out to have a romp around and it's only afterwards I have discovered they have done their business up the side of the house. Over Christmas, whilst we are all in a good bit, we came to realise that this must be the poor things only exercise - they shoot up and down the street for about 10 minutes and then disappear. I am quite shy and would die at the thought of confrontation but my blood boiled at the thought of all this and the fact that my kids walked through it in the dark.

I have spent years trying to pixie hop past dog mess, having the children practically hop scotch to school to avoid it and manys a time I have had dog poop imbedded in pram and buggy wheels, it's not fair and theirs no excuse for it. We all carry bags in coats, in my handbag, jeans - it's a wonder my already rickety washing machine hasn't exploded, the amount of times poop bags have accidentally found their way into it because they have been in clothes pockets so not being responsible and not having poop bags doesn't wash with me, if you'll pardon the pun.

I have no advise other than already stated, telephone the dog warden as you actually know her address and rap the window if you catch the poor pup in the motions, so to speak. It's not it's wee fault, but neither is it your responsibility to prevent it accessing your property.
