Would you buy a house next to a petrol station?

Go and loiter nearby at various times of day and night to see what it is like. Any neighbours you could talk to?0

Err, how often has anyone heard of a petrol station exploding?
My concerns would be smell or noise pollution so would find out opening times etc and visit at different times and in different weather conditions (if possible) to help determine any issues.0 -
We almost viewed a house next to a petrol station - in a rural location on an A-road in Wiltshire - a few years ago. It was a period property with potential - we like projects, lol - and a good sized garden and extremely reasonably priced, but DH refused to contemplate it for the same reason that other posters have quoted.......the fear of explosions being the main one as well as noise, fumes etc etc and he eventually convinced me to look elsewhere.
It would have been a lovely property when restored sympathetically and close to one of my favourite locations (Marlborough), but the negs outweighed the positives for usMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Some petrol stations have to close at 10pm if they are close to residential housing.0

I wouldn't I hate the smell of petrol and I would be worried about the risk of fire...0

Thanks all, so it looks like most people wouldn't touch it. Must admit, maybe I am a bit "cavalier" but the risk of explosion isn't one I had seriously considered! I was thinking more about the practical issues (noise/smell/traffic/) and the consequences for being able to sell it on but I will now start researching explosion risks at petrol stations..0

I would firstly go to the local insurance broker like Swindon and ask them what it would cost for that type of risk to be added onto the policy plus legal cover as if their was an explosion naturally the business insurance of a the petrol station would possible cover it for third party risks however I may be mistaken. Secondly I would actually directly go into the petrol station and ask the staff about the deliveries smell etc. And noise disturbance!!! plus you could drive past it at night time and see for yourself what its like. Then using all the information to hand make your conclusions about the whole matter!!0
