Shaving Money Saving Ideas

Options
So we all know the high cost of cartridge razors is pretty high and recently I have just got back in to double-edge shaving.
With blades less than 3p per unit, it seems like a pretty good step. However the creams and soaps can get really expensive but the smart price shaving foam is alright.

Some people suggest the Mach 3 is better than their 5-blade fusion, although it's been so long since I used either I can't remember.

Anyone else had any thoughts on this?

  • I find that the 5 blade fusion are the best out of all the 5 blade range as they last longest and have less pull.
On the 3 blade race theres not to much difference and i go for the aldi ones.
What I do is if I'm doing something special like a meal out, a wedding, going away. I use the fusion as it gives me a better smooth finish. and day to day for work ect I use the cheaper one.

    Double edge is great.

Blades are so cheap (about 10 p per one), which I could make last just under a week, but at that price I am happy to change every few days.

Razors, well, I bought an expensive one (£40 odd) but is considered the third best in it's class (a Gillette Super Adjustable).

I would certainly recommend it as soap lasts for ages rather than a can of goo which is only a couple of months worth.

I bought my husband this and since using it, it has saved money on the price of blades.

Second vote for this. My husband used to change his blades weekly, since using the cleaner which takes about 20 seconds a morning, blades are lasting 5-6 weeks on average.

Well, if you have sensitive skin soap wont be good for you.
You may well develop sensitive skin by using soap for many years.

    You can however -
    a) Rub your blades on jeans. Check it out online. Works.
b.) Make your own shaving paste/gel/foam/cream. Again, check online.

Gillette sensor excel II. Cant fault it :)

Sensitive skin? Consider a shaving oil rather than soap. Or try different soaps. (If you can afford it, have a real shave/lesson at a real barbers - hot towels, the works. Listen and learn! Yes, they'll try to sell you things, but if it gives you a really good shave, may be money well spent.)

Budget tight? Switch to DS & relearn to shave. Complex initially, yes, but So Much Saved on those cartidges!

Didn't work for me, hence I found "old fashioned" shaving to work out better.
Plus, it's nice being able to change blades, razors, soaps freely, which you can't do as easily with cartridge razors.

Ive got sensitive skin and make sure I shave in the shower, I use Asdas own gel and have found Gillette disposable razors (not cartridges) last for months, a pack of 5 triple blade disposables have lasted me since December and I shave my head and face regularly. One tip I learnt a while ago, run your razor under the cold tap before use, it tightens the blade

Just a quick heads up, I just found packs of 4 Fusion blades for a fiver today, usually closer to a tenner, so picked up 4 packs. Joked with the family that given my reduced rate of growth that will probably keep me in blades for close to 18 months!
