Very noisy neighbours

  • Ha ha ha. Ironically, I've tried something like this. Shall we say that our music tastes are somewhat different. She likes Lionel Ritchie type stuff ( my worst nightmare!) and I like rock music, her worst nightmare. I put the speakers against the wall facing her house and ramped it up. Childish I know, but I'd had enough, but It still had no effect!!!

This is quite a good website:

Unfortunately this kind of problem can quickly escalate and can take ages to resolve. You have to be very determined to get anything done.

Thanks so much for this, I hadn't given it thought about approaching her when she's out and about, you never know, it might actually work:)

  • I live in a council place, and its not so easy to move, unless the council or housing association want you out.

I have the same problem my end with noisy people.

I called up the housing office and was given some sheets of paper, and have to write all the details down, when where, who (is known) time how long it lasts what they were doing..

The women upstairs that was getting beaten by her husband, was finally moved out! - That took a year or so from when i moved in, but had been going on for longer - she would be screaming and crying and him shouting from 1am -3am police and ambos were always called she was bleeding and baby crying - but she always went back! Till someone obviously stepped in!

Now i have my next door neighbors who are in there 50's , drinking all the time playing boyzone and singing along from 11-5am most week nights and even longer at the weekends! - they also get people kocking on the door swearing at them..

And then there is me, and my son whos registered disabled - Iv had someone try to brake in 2wice, post going missing, people making heaps of noise and getting drunk. I really want to move, but all you can do is go on the homeswapper website and hope someone wants your place and you want theirs! Iv been on there since i moved in and 2 years later im still here- no one is interested!

Other thing you can do is phone up the council and say you have spoken to environmental health, but this has been going on too long what can you do!

That's enough reason to call in the police.

Sadly she's a council tenant, she did talk about moving a while ago but it appears she's decided to stay.

The thing is, she doesn't appear unreasonable, but also doesn't seem to care that this is really inflicting on mine and my families

Council tenants don't usually just up and move, unfortunately. I would get onto the council or housing association asap though, preferably before they get what's known as a 'secure tenancy'. We had noisy idiots living downstairs and the HA did eventually manage to get rid of them.

I used to have a neighbour like this. She just couldn't seem to understand that her music wasn't being enjoyed by the entire street at 7am.

Thankfully her landlord lived two doors down and must have got sick enough himself to evict her. Hurrah!

Unfortunately I don't really have any useful advice. If they're usually ok with you knocking on and asking them to turn it down, I'd be doing it every day and hope it eventually sinks in!

contact the RSPCA about the dogs barking continually and them being yelled at... say you are concerned that they are out in all weathers and don't seem to be cared for. You are concerned for the animal's welfare. lay it on thick.

Then try contacting environmental health about the dogs barking continually.

Remember, 'they' couldn't get Al Capone for being in The Mob but they did him for tax evasion...
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
    DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son
  • I hope you don't think I was saying that she's council I'm not so therefore, because I really wasn't. The only relevance it has is if a formal complaint goes into environmental health, it then will show up if I want to sell which is why I've attempted to avoid this option.

I understand it's not easy to move, as my friend is having a similar problem where nobody wants to house swap, however my neighbour was offered a house swap, and at the last minute decided to not go through with it..

I think that's the problem, you can't choose who moves in next door, and have to hope they are reasonable neighbours, I've been living next door to mine for over 10 years and it's only in the past two there have been problems, and like I've said she's not wholly unreasonable, and I wouldn't wish her to get into trouble or lose her home, I just want some peace. :)

  • I'd approach them and ask if you can, there's really little to do in this situation bar move :( Or seek council, there's a few services around that may help!

And if they have to bring the dogs in, they'll probably have to tone it down to prevent the dogs reacting to the noise ;).
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..
