Is Farmfoods a supermarket? I've never heard of them.

ETA: just Googled, there isn't one within a 20 mile radius of me. Nearest Lidl is 25 miles away and Aldi is 18 miles away.

Anyone who's interested in frozen veg try Farmfoods. They often have good offers like 3 bags of veg for £2. Leeks and peppers are particularly good value.

Ive just started buying my frozen veg from farmfoods and Im really impressed.

Their 750g bag of spinach is a quid (you'll know that as you posted), but they often have 3 for 2 as you say

They also do small bags of veg, the ones that go in the micro. I bought 3 the other day for a pound, bags of cauli, carrot and peas and they were lovely.

A lot of other stuff thats very good value as well. Where I live you always get farmfoods money off vouchers through the post as well.

Same here, and it's a national chain. I'm about as far south as it's possible to be!

That's tough having a limited choice of stores chameleon. If you do go near your Aldi's or Farmfoods for another reason it's worth doing a bit of stocking up for your storecupboard/freezer.

The only problem is, they are all in opposite directions from each other so I'd end up doing over a 100 mile round trip to accommodate each :rotfl:

I don't really have a reason to visit any of the towns they're in either, unfortunately. Plans have recently been passed to build a couple of new supermarkets in nearby towns so fingers crossed one might be an Aldi as I've heard on the grapevine they're expanding out this way. The other is earmarked to be either Morrison's or Sainsburys, neither of which we have nearby either. We're stuck with Mr T, Waitrose or Co-op.

    Just people's preference.

My budget is £80 per week for food. I keep the grocery shopping and milk bill within £75 for 4 adults including all lunches; the extra £5 goes on an occasional coffee, or the drinks when we use our Clubcard deals for meals out. Takeaways have to come out of this budget so they are very rare!
This doesn't include cleaning/laundry/toiletries or alcoholic drinks. If I want wine or cider for cooking though, it does have to come out of this budget. I cook from scratch using mostly fresh or frozen food and would say we eat well but aren't perfect. Not organic (except carrots) as I can no longer afford this and the meat I buy is now usually Red Tractor rather than free range.
  • We spend approximately £70 every 2 weeks for two adults (and one rabbit). So I suppose that works out at £17.50 per week per person. This includes toiletries, alcohol, cleaning products, pet food and supplies, restocking the store cupboard, etc.

We do our shopping fortnightly (other than the odd extra trip to buy milk or bread) so during the second week we are usually eating leftovers, using up freezer food or delving into the store cupboard. We eat relatively healthily, buy fresh and frozen veg, buy meat on offer, and rarely buy ready meals. We take full advantage of offers where possible and bulk buy things we know we'll use in future if the price is low. I don't feel like our budget is strict. We eat well and have plenty of food in the house at all times. I write a shopping list before we go shopping to avoid impulse buys or snacks we don't need and we tend to stick to that list.

Those figures don't include takeaways or eating out which happens once every 3 ish weeks. We also have dinner at a relative's house once a week (on most weeks) so that's a meal we don't have to pay for.
