That amount on coffee would be quite easy with the coffee pods. For example, dolce gusto comes in 8 and 16 drinks. 8 drinks in a pack are for lattes and other milky specials, even on 3 for £10 that's only 24 coffees perhaps between two people. It adds up!

Ah yeah I forgot about the cost of coffee pods.. good point. I don't drink coffee but the pods are hugely expensive for what they are and often contain lots of additives.

Mine varies, this month I have already spent over £100 on groceries but I hadn't done a 'big shop' in ages so was a lot of storecupboard stuff and filling the freezer. I shop around a lot, and cook from scratch most days. We tend to have leftovers for lunch and sometimes make pasties etc for the OH to have for lunch which we freeze and he just takes out in the morning.

Last month we spent £83 but £140 eating out! They tend to average about the same - December was £93 at home, £94 out.

There is two of us, both adults working full time - both in fairly physical jobs.

I am veggie which helps but I buy sainsburys value veg bags which are excellent value, and use frozen veg like spinach and chopped peppers, broad beans. I have a good cupboard of basic foods e.g. Pickled garlic, olive oil, spices, sundries tomatoes, lentils, chick peas, pulses and once you have a good store cupboards it's easy to replenish a couple of items a week. I grow my own veg in summer - tomatoes, beans, potatoes, spinach, peppers, herbs. I pick herbs and freeze them. I make things like my own hummus, falafels, pies, pizza bases, flat breads. I like simple, easy, tasty recipes. I make chunky soups and have leftovers for lunch. Slow cooker is great for soups.
