  • Don't think I could bring myself to buy something from a company with rogue apostrophes all over the place, and whose returns policy states "To cancel or return an order contact us on 028 95913349 or email orders@zebrabooks.net. Returns are excepted up to 14 days after date sold."

    My god.

No offense... but anyone ordering a Macbook off THAT website shouldn't be allowed near a computer with a credit card.

It might as well be titled Scamsite.net

    Exactly.

I wonder what % of my monthly credit card repayment subsidises chargebacks for sites like this.
  • Agreed, the website is badly put together, but I think it is pretty offensive to say people shouldn't be allowed near a computer with a credit card if they've ordered. Way to kick people when they're down.

I called Barclaycard before ordering and said I thought it was potentially a scam but didn't want to miss out on the savings on offer - they told me to buy, buy and buy again. They even told me I'd get an extra 12 month warranty with my business card that I didn't know about, and that if there was a dispute I'd immediately be credited with the amount during the resolution period.

It's a massive pain, but there's not much risk involved - I've disputed the amount (which has been credited back to my account), and additionally I've cancelled my old card so a new number can be issued in case it's a harvesting scam. However, had it been some illiterate start-up offering £350 off RRP because they'd overstocked (or were loss leading) I'd be recanting my tales of shopping glory to anyone who'd listen.

Lots of people who have ordered will have followed the top adword link from google, and due diligence shows the company number and vat number correlate with the name and address on the website. Perhaps a little too much faith was put into the VAT man on this occassion.

I've had an email again from them today sticking to their first class "it's on its way" story - I'm going to feel like a right end bell if it ever really turns up.

    Honestly I blame Apple ;)

i also am waiting on a macbook pro for £899
i have just recieved an e-mail from him
telling me the adverse weather has delayed delivery of said computer
    lets hope!

Hope all you like but it won't happen. Harass your card company. I hope you did pay by credit card?
  • Please phone 101 from a landlind and report him to the freaud dept and also call the fr4ee phone number for the VAT fraud line. they will be very interested.
My guess is that he is making no momney selling books and he wants to male a quick buckl before leaves the country. even today he is still "selling" macbook pros for 899 pounds. so he is accruing a lot of money in a short time.
  • The zebra logo still has the 123RF watermark on it. Wonder if they've properly licensed it.

  • My case reported to ActionFraud today. Suggested they might just stop him running out the door with a few £100k. The guy was actually impressed with the bits that 'look' authentic. Gave me a Case Number.

Trading Standards were very different. Totally disinterested. Suggest I talked to my local branch of TS who would relay info if thy thought it was worthwhile. Had no concept of speed whatsoever!!!

Contacted card company. Didn't feel the need to cancel my card but have credited my payment for £899 pending investigation. They have assured me that I will be reimbursed.

I think such minor criminality would be insignificant! The guy is probably sat at some beach bar in Barbados anyway. I doubt he'd have made all that money and want to stay in the !!!!-pit Google Maps throws up!
  • The VAT Man has to be the best way to cause this guy a visit ..... assuming, of course, he really is a bit of a rogue ;)
