Effect of Scottish Independence Vote

Not sure on this. The anti-English bile I get when I visit Glasgow does not exactly encourage me to buy Scottish products. After independence I might be more inclined to buy Irish or Japanese whisky.0 -
For sure, everybody knows that Irish whiskey is superior anyway
As an English whisky fan, my issue with the Irish whiskey industry is that there aren't enough locally owned small independent distillers, so there isn't enough variety available: for me it tends to be the same (i.e. Jameson) experience whatever the branding on the bottle.
Although there is a discernible deterioration in quality of some of the "big brand" Malts, especially those from Islay (Laphroaig and Ardbeg being cases in point) in recent years, there are enough small Scottish distilleries doing the right thing to maintain quality and provide a variety of experience. (e.g. Kilchoman).
One thing I'd like to see any independent Scottish government do would be to ban chill filtration and use of caramel colourant in the manufacture of malt: its OK for blends but it increasingly diminishes the reputation of Scottish malt whisky...0 -
A fine post by Borrowedtune. You can always tell a connoisseur by his ability to differentiate between whiskey and whisky!
And some of you Scot-bashing imbibers should beware of the former. It might be the biggest selling Irish whiskey in the world, but the founder, John Jameson, was a Scotsman!

'Anti-English bile' when you visit Glasgow'? True, it is the biggest metropolitan area in the country, but I think it is stretching it a considerable bit to suggest this is the rule.
There are many I understand cannot even say anything charitable to anyone from a nearby town and the bulk of them will be Scots! Neanderthals will exist everywhere - I would question the company you keep or areas you visit if you bump into them more often than you should.
I take folk as I find them, if I don't get respect it is reciprocated - it has nothing to do where they're 'from'. Most Celts welcome those from any country, we do it well as we're the next place to visit after London. If it was as bad as you say, this wouldn't be the case.0 -
Why wait for the vote? You can buy non-Scottish whiskey today, and it comes without the Scottish abuse.
I do. I was just pointing out that disrespectful banter from a Scotsman in the UK is bad enough, but after a Yes vote they will probably get worse and I will be even less inclined to buy Scotch.:D0 -

I have been curious about English whisky for a while, so being patriotic I think I will give it a try, is it stocked in supermarkets or do you have to buy it from a specialist retailer?Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

You are right there are some very civilised Scottish people and yes I do seem to visit some of the less desirable areas of Glasgow (although I am sure there are worse parts).0
