Robot vacuum cleaners

If the house was carpet I wouldn't recommend one at all....but to be honest I wouldn't expect it to be able to do anymore than pick a few crumbs up off the floor. I don't think I'd expect it to do a good job where pet hairs were concerned as you need to have a very good suction to get most pet hairs up.
But if it's laminate flooring then the little tentacles from the robotic hoover (if it's the red one that swizzles round) would easily pick up pet hairs.0 -
I'm not sure if you can get it on the BBC iPlayer, but on the BBC news channel's "Click" programme today they reviewed a number of robot vacuums.0

we have nine and thinking about it more, I'm sure 4 or 5 cats would hunt one of these, thus giving entertainment as well as cleaning value - as long as, of course, the cat didn't win and the cleaner had a low enough centre of gravity! We have one as we have 3 cats, and love it. It's never going to be as efficient as a standard vacuum cleaner, but it works remarkably well for everyday crumbs, general fluff and pet hair (we have laminate, so suction not an issue)0 -
I am a member of another forum with a member who had one of these. One day his dog had an accident and pooped on the living room carpet. The robot vacuum cleaner then spent a couple of hours smearing it all around the room.
I'll see if I can find the pictures. It wasn't pretty.
Edit: Better than that, he actually posted a video up on Youtube

This seems to suggest that they are OK for some things, but not a substitute for a manual vacuum.

This discussion's a couple of years old but it's worth asking again.
Does anyone have a robot vacuum, like a roomba?

We have an IRobot Roomba, and it's fantastic! We've had it a couple of years now and as we have a German Shepherd, it is set to come on every day. It does what it says on the tin and then takes itself back and recharges. Occasionally it needs a bit of help, it may have too much dog hair caught in it's wheel, but it's not often and it's very easy to empty.
I would also say though, I thought it was so good, I ordered the Scooba, floor washing model. That was not good! I think it suffered from the fact that you need pressure to remove stubborn marks, so no, that I could not recommend.
Hope that helps!0
