Robot vacuum cleaners

Not exactly money saving, but does anyone have a robot vacuum cleaner? And if so, would you recommend them?
Basically, my girlfriend is going back to work and we have a dog which means we have to hoover the house every day so I'm wondering whether one of these would do a job for us?
I'm not expecting them to be as good as our Henry, I just want it to keep the place tidy and them we can give everywhere a good hoover at weekends.
irobot have a product called the braava which is effectively a mop, I'm wondering whether this would be good as the dog hairs would cling to it.
Would appreciate peoples thoughts/views.

no but I like the idea - and why stop there - get the things making dinner too cleaning scrubbing and ironing. I had a leaflet through my door the other day "cleaning, one room, half price, £50" and I remember thinking to myself - even electric doesn't cost that much - and wondering about one of those things
I await the jobsworths telling me to stop being lazy so I will quickly add I work all the time including some weekends.... so they sound like a marvellous idea for he who has money and yet no time0 -
I know somebody who's son has one, they claim it's good, but to be honest I wouldn't expect it to be able to do anymore than pick a few crumbs up off the floor. I don't think I'd expect it to do a good job where pet hairs were concerned as you need to have a very good suction to get most pet hairs up.
Much better to spend the money on a carpet sweeper or small rechargeable vacuum to do a job that would only take a few mins. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I don't see suction being a problem as our floors are laminate so the dog hair should be easy to get up.
Like I say, I don't expect it to be as good as a full size hoover, but if it does 75% of the job it means we only need to give the place a good hoover at weekends.0 -
I imagine it would be inefficient regarding cleaning corners and negotiating furniture . Dog hair accumulates in corners and under furniture.0

:rotfl: My wife would like one, but I refuse to be a slave :rotfl:
No really, not as good as they make out they are
Checkout the "Click" program from yesterday on the BBC site, they tested them, http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03w7mwb/Click_15_02_2014/Signature removed0 -
I bought a nearly new irobot from a jumble sale 2 years ago for £45. I took it to India as i have a apartment there and it was amazing on marble floors. It came with 2 lighthouses ....... I put them on the floor where i didnt want the Irobot to go and it used to turn around when it came near them.
I loved it as i used to go out and just switch it on and when it was running out of charge it would take it self to the charger and get back on charge.
For carpets i dont think it would be very good but for wooden floors and tiled floors it would be perfect. My one would have cost £450 + new
I wouldnt bother with the floor washing one as steam mops would be better.
Yes it does do corners as it has side brushes.0 -
We have one as we have 3 cats, and love it. It's never going to be as efficient as a standard vacuum cleaner, but it works remarkably well for everyday crumbs, general fluff and pet hair (we have laminate, so suction not an issue)"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

I LOVE my Roomba:j
NOT a toy and better than not vacuuming at all.
Comes on every day and recharges itself - only operator intervention is emptying and cleaning the hair from brushes.0 -
I know someone who has one as she needs to hoover every day and loves it. It does the hoovering while she is at work.0
