Broken plastic bag, ruined goods.

I can't believe threads like this!
... "Obviously my question is too silly to warrant a friendly reply." - you're not far wrong, love.
Of course a bottle will work its way through a bag if carried for a prolonged period. If that was the only item bought, he should've held it by the neck, that's painfully obvious.0 -
falling out with local shop over such a trivial matter is probably not a good strategy0

Hold your horses Sherlock. That avatar is provided by MSE as part of a small selection. Go to Your Profile > Edit Avatar and you'll see for yourself.0 -
My apologies to the other poster then, still not sure of this one.0

I broke a bottle of wine once, when the plastic bag broke, right outside my front door.:(
Now, I don't take any chances, I pay for the wine and drink it on the way home. It does make the drive home a bit of a challenge but luckily for me, I have those handy cup holders in my car which means that I don't spill a drop!
Cheers!

...if I was a shop owner I'd take the hit to keep the custom. The cost of a bottle of wine vs who knows how much money made from a local/loyal customer? Yes maybe above and beyond, technically, but it would be sensible.
One of our local shops charges 80p to use a card (a transgression which deserves its own thread) and we've avoided going there so much as a result, they must have lost who knows, a tenner a week at least.

it is for real -- can be slow going but there is money to be made0 -
Legally, the shop is responsible. They provided the carrier bag for that specific task, it wasn't up to the job, it's their fault.
So consumer rights answer - your right is for a full refund from the shop. Whether you'll get it is another answer.0 -
