Broken plastic bag, ruined goods.

My husband bought a bottle of wine for £15 in our local shop.
It was given to my husband in a plastic bag.
The plastic bag broke on the way home and the bottle was ruined.
The shop owner is denying responsibility and saying because my husband didn't return immediately to the shop (he popped home first to drop off some supplies for our baby) and returned after an hour, it is not his problem.
This is a local corner shop and I understand it is not a large amount of money (though to us it is) - do I have any recourse? Or would I just be wise to chalk it up to experience and never set foot in there again?

Chalk it up to experiance, you should never trust a plastic bag and there is nothing to say you didn't just drop it.0

I'm just curious to know why you would consider never shopping there again?whythebigpaws wrote: »My husband bought a bottle of wine for £15 in our local shop.

Ive trusted a plastic bag to carry a bottle of wine before and its survived the journey but if it were to break id have myself to blame simple as.
Yes be wise to chalk it up to experience and not let your OH do the shopping again or better still make sure he has some bags with him when he goes shopping next.0 -
Claim from the plastic bag manufactorer0

Well, I guess I would assume that if someone sells you goods and puts it in their plastic bag then I suppose I would assume that's part of the purchase.
Having worked in retail a while, if I had sold someone an item and the packaging I had sold the item in failed, then I had always I assume that I as the seller was at fault.
Perhaps I am wrong.0 -

Come over to NI or Wales where we supply our own bags and take responsibility for getting our shopping home in one piece0

We had a similar problem at M&S, they packaged our bottles of wine In one of the wine carrier boxes, on way to car the handle gave in and every bottle smashed. M&s replaced all without any question.0

Thats a wine box though, not a bag. The OP is saying the bag broke, are you not listening.0
