Spec Letters to companies

I am just wondering what you lot think.

Do you think its fair that Job Centre advisors ask us to send spec letters out to companies/Employers when we are only on a low income?

Also when employers receive your spec letters, do you believe they just throw them in the bin without reading them? because if they do that then its a waste of our money.

I can't understand why Job Centre ask us to do this when we only get a small amount of money, I thought the reason we claim Job Seekers is stated in the law for the amount of us to live on and support us until we get a Job?

I will be glad the day when I get a Job as I hate going to Job Centre. :(

Why is it unfair? You can access free stamps and staionary at many work clubs.

Have they actually said post them? e-mail is free. You can also access free internt at work clubs and also your local JCP so no cost to yourself.

JSA in an allowance to seek work and support you.
  • I am on the side of the Job Seeker 99% of the time, on this point though I can not agree with you.

You can send the majority of spec applications via email nowadays, so there is really no excuse. Also if you look for local job clubs you may find some that can offer some help with postage.

Go out, get some voluntary work in an area that you would enjoy and would upskill you enough to find paid employment. In the meantime ensure your CV and cover letters are up to scratch and then apply for jobs via email. Spec letters can also be hand delivered to shops in the area.
  • GG – I know you are 27 and from Burnley and love Fonzie, but I don’t know much more about you. What is your work history? When did you last work? And what qualifications do you have?

Because there's a risk one of them might offer him a job.

If you say so. What about my other questions - What is your work history? When did you last work? And what qualifications do you have?

I was in Manchester this week, had a nice meal in Canal street, whilst there I spotted 3 pubs that were advertising for staff as well as the client I was visiting was advertising over 100 admin jobs.

If you don't want to send spec letters or jump though any of the hoops, get a job, oh but that comes with plenty of hoop jumping as well.

    Try the Kibbutz
  • I am planning to send out loads of spec letters and they will all be via email.

Wont cost you a penny. Get on with it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
A family member in his early 20s was getting fed up with rejections so he printed off loads of CVs (job club provided everything) and walked around the local towns and hand delivered them to relevant businesses.

He dressed professionally and spoke politely to the receptionists... Two days later he had a call for an interview. Apparently the boss was impressed that he was out and about even in the pouring rain and wanted to meet him because he appreciated the effort.

He got the job - minimum wage for just over a year and then a promotion...

Sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince!
