    Priorities.

I do hope the op is never employed with any serious responsibility as he'd be on here asking and not taking advice.

Do you have a link for that post Pauline? Just had a quick scan on his last postings but couldn't see it (EDIT: Just found it via Google cache, thread has been deleted)...... unbelievable really, £300 budgeting loan for a night out?

Got to be a troll, otherwise Gay_Guy is the poster child for those who want to believe that all job seekers are wasters. I honestly think he is a troll, that or he just isn't at all grounded in reality.

I also genuinely believe if Gay_Guy was for real then he would have already been sanctioned by now. If I was being threatened with one constantly for actually being a dedicated job seeker who was doing volunteering work and had recent spells of employment, then can't see how on earth he has managed to escape one giving his general attitude.
  • Surprised he hasn't been PPRed for posting deliberately provocative !!!! like that.

GG you want a job right, well if you do get typing the letters and CV's to hand deliver but dress smart and I mean shirt and tie and not 1 of your favourite Tee's.

How was the night out OP ?

I got my current job by spec on LinkedIn. I was always quite sceptical about spec emails but seemingly they work!

Im self employed and Im far from rolling in money. If I got on a night out, apart from my travel to and from which is paid for by way of a monthly bus ticket, I can go out and easily spend £6. Someone posted on the original thread that gg didnt have a lot of expectations of the night if he only had £135 for it

I absolutely disagree. What matters to me is being out with friends. On Friday night I was out, I had a couple of low alcohol beers, cost me £2.90 a time.

Its called cutting your coat according to your cloth. The dress I wore on Friday was 99p from Barnardos, my coat was also 99p from barnados.

No one would have known to look at me. I dont drink much these days so Im happy with a soft drink or two or a low alcohol beer.

Its absolutely possible to go out and have a good time without spending a ton, there shouldnt be this assumption that you need to "treat yourself" because you are looking for a job.

I know its tough out there and people get labelled scroungers when they arent. I shop in places like B and M, aldi, approved foods, wilkinsons, farmfoods.

If I dont have cash to go out at the weekend, I stay in. Ive probably had my heating on 10 hours tops since last April.

In my previous line of work I worked with young homeless people, most were unemployed, partly because to live in supported accommodation, if you work, you pay a ton in rent, so I know what its like when people apply for grants and loans that they are basically going to !!!! up against a wall.

Im 45 and I changed career at 41. I have professional qualifications but they count for squat in the line of work I do just now.

Ive posted on other threads, my brother was out of work for a long time, he was offered a couple of jobs with the civil service, was successful at interview, but was going to take 12 months for the job to materialise.

But in the meantime he retrained as a gym instructor and then worked his way towards being a personal trainer. He was unemployed when he did his gym instructor qualification. Paid for it on a credit card, had work within weeks of qualifying and paid it off. He also has a degree, but found it tough getting work.

He now works full time, teaches classes in a studio that he and a couple of his friends rent and personal trains as well.

My point is, its possible to be in your late 20s and be struggling to find work, but actually be motivated enough to find work, the work my brother did in the beginning was just casual work for a gym, not cash in hand, but holiday and sickness cover, he went for a job in that gym and he didnt get it but they were impressed with him and offered him casual shifts and that led to him getting the full time job he has now.

And he didnt sit about and whinge and go, the world owes me, he got off his backside and did something with his life.

His qualification cost him around £400, he'll have paid that back in a month of working for the gym.
