If you move the leaver from 5th to inbetween 3rd and 4th, then back across, you can go into reverse, but if you pull straight back from 5th, you should not be able to get into reverse - this done stationary with clutch in!
There's nothing to stop me from moving straight from 5th reverse (stationary, with clutch in ). I've always been able to do it, as there is no button or thing I have to lift up to reverse....it just slides in, straight down from 5th.marlasinger0 -
Thanks! - Sorry, that does not sound right at all, maybe someone else with an 05 Yaris could confirm, but every 5 speed box I have used before has a stopper within the gearbox to stop that. (mostly Fords now, but have driven a few older Toyotas, Mazdas, Mitsubishis in the past)
I am aware of the separate system of lifting a collar / depressing the leaver / pushing button etc.
Glad the car is working now though!0 -
Someone a few posts up said that their Mazda was the same (no collar, or lever pushing, etc). I haven't driven that many cars, but this is the only one I've driven like it.marlasinger0
