I did try to read your alternatives but find it difficult to parse waffle through glazing-over eyes. If Richie-from-the-Boro and me are against your stance your final presumption is questionable.
I am certainly not their dog - but equally certainly do not believe the customer is always right (especially when they're wrong.)
I find it hilarious that you actually believe a deemed contract is in anyway fair. That a individual can be tied into a contract which they were not privy to is just magical in my eyes!

You're not tied into anything. Standard tariff is the one tariff without any fixed term clauses.
You are obtaining a product, for which you are promising to pay later. Whenever this happens, be it for a car, a mobile phone or indeed for energy, you enter into a contract. No contract, no payment.
To turn it the other way, when you happily used energy for the first 2 weeks before bothering to inform the suppliers you'd moved in, did you honestly not think you were in some form of contract? Because if so, the natural corollary is that you didn't expect to pay at all.0 -

I know...in that 2 weeks my Psychic skills had left me and I was unable to pick up their mystic readings beckoning me to contact them...Of course what I now realize I shoudl have done is contact ALL the suppliers and ask did you supply the previous occupiers of this address.
And while i failed dismally in ascertaining who the previous supplier was they triumphed. Despite me not contacting them they still managed to put my name on their first bill. Seems their psychic skills are a lot better than mine.
Guess they just overlooked telling me about the Deemed contract. Shame I would have like to have known about that in advance

Huh?
You are (presumably) a grown man. You need to make two phone calls to ascertain your supplier:
http://www.ukpower.co.uk/who-supplies-my-gas-and-electricity
And then a further one to the supplier, to supply meter readings.
Most grown ups know they have to submit a meter reading on the day they move into a property; how else could you possibly hope to receive an accurate bill? Googling "Who supplies my energy" took less than 5 seconds and produced the above link.
You're making a mountain out of a molehill.
Although the more you post, the more I smell WUM....0
