Is it worth trying to haggle when joining Sky?

  • Thanks, all good points
  • Maybe they were listening to me, they are now offering a £100 M&S or £100 Tesco voucher for new customers who join by Sunday.
  • SKy's new offer is top tier for <£30 for 25 months. No need to haggle. New customers only, as per usual. Grrr......

  • Well I've taken the plunge! At the last minute (while I was chatting to them online in fact) I found another offer, which is 25% off the total package (including 50% off the broadband) for 12 months, so I'll only be paying £35/month for 12 months for entertainment, unlimited broadband, and talk weekends. there is a T&C whereby you can't change your package during the 12 months or you'll lose your discount, but I'm not going to want to change.

The £100 voucher offer was £40/month for 12 months, plus the voucher, so technically that is £33/year cheaper than the 25% offer (if I'd spent all the £100 Tesco voucher on essentials like food), but I'd rather have the savings spread out over the year, so the £35/month is preferable.

Great deal for me this, it's £10/month cheaper than my current Virgin package, but with more channels including Fox and Sky Atlantic, and even after 12 months it's the same as what I pay now.

There is a link here with some great Sky offers, including the 25% off one:

Sorry I don't. It was on Facebook from a friend who works with Sky but it did state it was available to all new customers and was in no way 'friends and family' or any such offer.

    Try Sky's Facebook page.

Does anyone know what the situation is with cancelling new Sky orders when you haven't yet had anything installed? Could I do that if I wanted to? Originally my TV installation date was 10th March, and my Broadband and Talk installation date was 24th March, and at the moment my Broadband and Talk installation date has been moved to 31st March, and I have no TV installation date, because I'm trying to get that moved to 31st March as well.

But it may be that I might have to cancel the order altogether, depending on what happens with my contract in work.

I had a look in the Terms and Conditions that came in the post, and under "Your rights to cancel your order (before activation") it says you can cancel you order for a new phone line at any time up to 3:30pm on the working day before your appointment". But it doesn't mention the TV side of it.

Presumably I can cancel the whole order any time before anything is installed, and maybe within a certain number of days afterwards? And if that's the case, would that me affected by the fact that I moved the original installation dates?

Incidentally I'm asking here rather than asking Sky because if I ask Sky they will inevitably try to get me to not cancel at all costs, and I can't be bothered with all that right now.
