Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter . We too, have 3 grandsons and a granddaughter . They're all lovely but I do like to shop more for the girly things . She likes the usual girl things and she swims, does gymnastics , dances , trampolines , rides her bike and scooter too . It's all good . Best wishes to you and your family .0

It's not political correctness to believe that gender stereotyping which begins from before birth is harmful to women and society.

Jeez I'm not sure where you got being excited about buying dresses being akin to gender stereotyping, unless of course you have a son that you put in dresses.
I do not believe in gender defined toys or playing however I am more than willing to indulge myself and my daughters in the beauty of clothes.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Good idea all who refer to dresses and dolls and pink things, lets start off by forcing female sterotypes upon this brand new blank canvas of a life. While you're at it, why not buy her a brush and pan and get her used to limited aspirations and societal expectations that as a girl all she will want to do is have a baby and look pretty.
Or you could look forward to the fact that a new life could be shaped into a well-rounded one where education, sports, literature, music and what's in her head is more important than having the latest pink dress from New Look.
I'll get my coat then…………………Slightly bitter0 -

How sad that some posters want to rain on the OP's parade :-(
My thoughts exactly, and not even a congratulations.
Congratulations OP and to the new Mummy and a Daddy too! :j
A guy I used to work with used to point out that pink actually used to be a boys colour, I don't know how many years/centuries ago he meant, but apparently it was! Also, my Mam always seemed to prefer to dress me in blue and neutral colours when I was a baby....maybe that's why (despite having a love of handbags and make up), I am quite a tomboy! :rotfl:0 -

Not trying to rain on the OP's parade, in fact, it wasn't the OP's post that contained anything I objected to, it was all of the other posters who immediately see girl and think pink. It goes beyond the colour to the socialisation, 'oh don't go and play football, you'll ruin that pretty dress, sit and colour instead' which subconsciously socialise girls into certain roles.
As for congratulating someone, I tend to reserve my congratulations for someone who has been directly involved in a process (ie. in this case, the mother). I'm pleased the OP is happy though. I didn't say I wasn't.0 -

You're a barrel of laughs. I'm sorry but where do you live (besides the 50s) that girls are stopped playing football because they might get a dirty dress.... What?!
Reiterate my congrats for you and all the fam as don't want this thread to me derailed - the comments are just too absurd not to be picked up on though!0 -

Lets also hope this new life is taught some social etiquette and manners as she grows up. Then maybe in years to come she wont forget to offer congratulations to someone who announces the arrival of a new grandchild. Unlike yourself lika_86.
Congratulations OP on your lovely new granddaughter. I hope you enjoy meeting her and that there are many special times ahead. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
