its annoying because for example i dont think channel 5 has HD so we cant have that as it stands , maybe i should try retuning the box when i get home from work see if that helps , as i say , i reseated both connecting ends and restarted the box

    frustrated

While this is true, it's normally the HD channels which disappear first in that scenario. The OP is complaining that HD channels are not affected.
DVB-T2 is if anything slightly more robust than DVB-T so that is not the typical result.

    Sandy Heath goes in frequencies: ch21 PSB3 (1,2,3,ITV & 4 HD), ch24 PSB 3 (ITV, C5 SD), ch27 (BBC SD), ch 32 COM 8 (BBC4HD etc., at lower power), ch48 COM 6 etc.,.

So this points to a 'standing wave' or interference issue. Most likely a kinked or crushed cable... oops! for the former. Most likely a dodgy hdmi-lead and/or poorly screened fly-lead if the latter.

Main question is - what has changed? Did it ever work OK? Did the problem start with a new box? When a cable was extended / re-routed? Go over the cables and plugs with a fine tooth-comb. Discard any thin white moulded-plug aerial leads and replace with quality double-screened ones (make your own). Try a different hdmi cable; keep the two types as far apart as possible.

I agree with Rodders but I would add "wall socket" and "fly-lead" because these are notorious for causing such problems if you use the wrong (cheap, improperly-screened) type. Also please confirm that the "good quality" cable you used is double-screened?

well all , i retuned , and during that it asked me for London or Bedfordshire and Cambridgshire , i picked Beds and Cambs , lo and behold , all channels are present now
Personally i think the engineer should have made sure the option chosen during install match to the way my aerial points...

Thanks for all advie though , always appreciated

I've never heard of web100 stuff. Most people recommend WF100 cable.

WEB = Webro a manufacturer of cable... especially WebroFoamfilled100 methinks ;)

I did suspect a tuning issue... but as Sandy starts first (ch 21) assumed most receivers would go to it in preference.... I also had heard manual tuning is not possible on many You View boxes...

Seems you pick up Crystal Palace as well as Sandy Heath, then ... bit like my son can in Houghton Regis. CP was always a bit dodgy there, though.

    Glad you are sorted, now.

Great stuff, I thought when you said BBC London and then mentioned the Sandy TX that it was a tuning issue and not a fault of your cabling.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
