Thanks for the enablement, ladies ;):D

Patentgirl - that's precisely why we've decided to change... there have been a few occasions where I've not bought any wine/beer because we've needed nappies or some other 'expensive' stuff and it felt as if we were depriving ourselves, when the money was available really - just not in the grocery pot.

And I knew what you meant, rosieben :)

LOL - just re-read my post and it makes me sound like a right lush: begrudging nappies and baby milk because I want wine! It's not like that... honest!

I'm sure I'll be able to get my budget right down when DS and DD are out of nappies and DD is onto cows milk... have you seen the price of Aptamil?

When mine were small I had a seperate 'baby budget' and 'luxuries' budget for us, aswell as the grocery one. Just a pity once youngest was about 3 years old budgetting went out of the window when our income went up as I did pretty well then, but we had less so was a necessary. I'm getting there, honest!

I do now put 'takeaways and meals out' in the grocery budget, which stops me just picking up the phone when I can make something nicer and probably in the same time it takes to deliver it.
One day I might be more organised...........

Have just been to Mr Ts. Spent £69.11 - spent so far on food this month £140 - budget £360. Have lots of people coming this weekend- 15 for for lunch on Sunday(and a family for supper on Saturday) so may need to "borrow" some of nexts week's budget at the weekend.
Still not including wine or household/cleaning stuff.

This thread is really helping me to keep downward pressure on my food spending . Thank you everyone!

noticed some of you sell books on Amazon to help out with budget. I have some nice books but when I checked on site found there were so many people selling the same books I did wonder if it would be a waste of time.
    Any suggestions?

I put mine on with the same price as the lowest one - don't go lower cos you'll enter a price war and everyone comes out worse off. There will always be more than one buyer for the item you're gonna list. You have nothing to lose - go for it! ;)

Well my second lot of shopping this month has arrived.
    £38.08.
Not bad at all - about half what we normally spend! :)
However we again didn't buy any meat - oh except some sausages for tea :)

Also I ordered 7 of those Tesco Healthy Living yogurts - half were HL and half were Mullerlight which are about twice as much costwise if I remember rightly. Well I'm not complaining anyhow :)

And we got 5p off every litre off fuel - though I did think you only got those if you sepnt £50+?
    Dream of being mortgage free....

    Hello All,

this is my first post so be GENTLE with me:o
ive been nosying around the site for a couple of days and already im hooked.
and boy do i need it.

ive been off work after injuring my back at work last Christmas.long story short ,work have now cut my pay to half so the old budget has had to have a serious revamp.

i live with my OH,border collie pup and a cat we got from a rescue place and one that has invaded from next door,no invite, hence i called him George w Bush!;)

right well thats me.i really hope i can make a difference to my shopping budget by actually thinking of what i buy rather than chucking it in the trolley.
im gonna guesstimate my budget for this month and see what happens.

right from 10th July~ 15th August im gonna try and spend less than £200

I find it helps a lot to meal plan for the week and then make a shopping list and stick to it (hardest part!). I only shop once a week.

I dont always stick rigidly to my meal plan but its good to know that I have the makings of meals for the week (sometimes the smell from the chippy just draws me in!!) ;)

So far, Ive spent £87.15 this month.

My target is £250 for 2 adults and 2 children (ages 10 & 2). Dont know whether this is good or not:confused: because I havent actually bought any dinners because freezer is full.

Looking at my receipts its mainly for bread, milk, cold meat, fruit, biscuits and yogurts.

Oh well, I shall just have to see what the rest of the month brings and take it from there to work out future challenges.
