My last landlady allowed her cousin to use my address as her postal address. I got all kinds of things in from Direct Line, DVLA, the bank, she even ended up on the electoral register. The icing on the cake was that her cousin was given a key and let herself into my home whenever she felt like it and kept pestering me to find out if she had any post there.

Any, getting back to your queries. I've never had a driving licence sent out recorded delivery. It's just been sent using regular 1st class post so I'm not sure what has been sent to your home.

Personally I would start returning all post to sender but that could lead to a section 21 for you.

As other posts and myself have said, just return anything not addressed to you as not known, or just bin it. Otherwise if its some sort of scam or fraud you'll send up being implicated. Just mark it RTS and pop it in a letter box or shred it.

If it is just dvla (see my earler post) I really don't see this as a big deal.

OK - better for b-i-l to use own address, as presumably he has an address elsewhere for everything else, but hey, either just

    * be a nice tenant and pas the (few) letters to your LL or

    * be less helpful and return them to sender as many have advised

    Sorted

i have sent back 2 dvla letters which both felt like that they had a license card in there.
landlord keeps coming around ringing asking if there any post which is when i told him the other day when he turned up for post that i wasnt happy.
so now i can only assume he contacted the dvla who have sent another out recorded this time as they havent received the others i sent back in post box.
will his brother in law be able to collect from royal mail? as he has no identification he lives at the address thats on the royal mail card.

Is your LL just turning up at your home unannounced?

The BIL will need the card that Royal Mail left, proof of identity and proof of address. Usually I use my driving licence but obviously your BIL can't do this :rotfl:

couple of times unannounced so i had him up about that. so he text me other day telling me somebody would be around to collect any post that evening. i was in bed! it was 9pm i had work next day at 4am. told him straight. then he arranged the other day to come over which is when i made it clear that i wasnt happy brother in law stuff was coming through.

the brother in law only has his dvla come through by the looks of things nothing else so i dont know what proof he going to show. hope this causes problems for him!

Is it possible the bil ever lived at the property?

Just a wild idea, maybe brother in law is your LLs wife's sisters husband, he's done the dirty and doesn't want personal correspondence going home but can't have it going to LLs because his wife would go ballistic. Just a thought. It may also be that the bil is trying to build a credit history at one fixed address rather than if he's say sleeping on sofas etc. again, I'm not saying it's right.

Be prepared for the landlord to not renew your tenancy in any event.

    Xx

Either return all post to sender or say to your landlord that you will contact him if/when post for either him or his BIL arrives which can be collected at a time suitable for you.
