I'm receiving dvla post in my landlords name

I'm receiving landlords dvla post come through to the house im renting from him which he told me he never has lived out told me he brought the property but wife was made redundant so can't afford to pay mortgage so renting it out.
Any ideas why his dvla is coming to this address? Or am I being paranoid?

  • He's on the fiddle somehow .

Send it back "not known at this address" .

£5 says he's fiddling something else - not declaring tax, no landlord insurance (a BIG issue for you), no gas safety cert etc etcetc
  • I rent house through estate agent but pay the landlord directly. British Gas came around week I moved in for gas safety check so seen that with my eyes. :/ I handed him about 6 letters from dvla since i moved in just before xmas yesterday as he passed by with new tap for kitchen that is broke. Today another dvla letter has turned up this time it feels that it's an actual drivers license inside :/ hmm mm? ?
  • I agree with the artful lodger...

It is a legal requirement to have your correct address on your driving licence. I also wonder what else he is fiddling...

  • Previous tenant told me the landlord paid the council tax they never dealt with it so I'm wondering if it is a tax fiddle. But now he has gone with me through an estate agent I'm paying council tax which is in my name. Since then it seems he's changed his drivers license address to this property im renting from him.

Sorry but I think some PPs are incorrect, it's only a requirement to have an address at which you are contactable at for driving license details.

But if the house is let out to a tenant how is the landlord 'contactable'?

It may be a fiddle, as suggested, it may not. Is it just dvla?

There are many reasons he may have once used that address (perhaps he did live there, or when his wife lived there he used it for dvla as his own address was temporary....) and he's simply not updated dvla.

Who knows? there may be nothing sinister.

Now, if there are mortgage letters, HMRC, his bank, his car insurance etc etc all coming, then that would be a clearer indication.

It could be a simple lack of information having being passed to DVLA which is resulting in all the letter or as people have said it could be a tax fiddle somewhere. As you have an estate agent in the middle I would arrange to go and see them OR give them a call to discuss and see what they advise.

Hes never lived at the house. he told me he brought it his wife was made redundant the week contracts and keys were exchanged so they stayed living with his relatives and decided to rent house out to pay for mortgage.
Previous tenants mentioned the landlords mortgage letters always come to the house I've only been here since xmas I've not seen one yet. No bank stuff comes as of yet just alot of dvla.
I guess I'm just worried if any of this will have a backlash on me or get me into trouble? I must admit I'd rather him inform dvla where his car is registered and not use the address where I'm living.
  • One possibility is that he would have to pay higher insurance if the car was kept where he actually lives than at the address you live at.

I can't see how this will get you into trouble at all.
