Its available in a lot of supermarkets usually in the baking section, made by English Provender or apparently often in asian shops0

If you go to a big Boots and ask for it, they'll normally sell it to you from the pharmacy. Sometimes you have to sign for it but normally you don't. I've found that this is the cheapest way to get hold of it. If your local chemist will make it up for you then I'd try that, normally there's nothing else in it but you can add a proportion of witch-hazel if you want a more astringent toner. You can also buy it online from various places which *might* be cheaper, I know you can get it from Neal's Yard but it's expensive there. You can make your own but it's a faffy thing to do, you need the right kind of roses for a start (and lots of them!) - it's easier just to buy it.
If you're wanting to cook with it though it's not the right stuff - the stuff you get from chemists is a LOT stronger than the cooking stuff (the chemists stuff is usually 3x concentrated, the cooking stuff isn't). You can get 'edible' rosewater from most big supermarkets - the brand that's normally available is English Provender, and it's usually on the aisle with the baking stuff, near the colourings and flavourings. If you live near a Greek/Cypriot/Turkish supermarket or general store, they normally sell big bottles of the culinary stuff really cheaply.0 -
Thanks for your replies, and thanks pink winged.. I had done a search on the thread before but everything I found was more to do with cooking, not for face, and I wasn't sure if it was the same stuff!!
I live in a very small tourist town in the highlands, we don't have any 'exotic' supermarkets at all!! Just shortbreads and haggis

Can't you make it buy filling a jam jar full of rose petals and then filling it with water, leaving it for ages to mature then taking or straining out the rose petals?
Have a vauge recolection of doing this when I was about 7 - so it can't be hard to do.
I remember doing this & it stank if you left it too long!0 -

Asian stores sometimes have it as it's used in cakes and puds"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Rose Water is used as a toner in the beauty industry - you can expect to pay about £3.00 for 500ml, or £10.00 for 4 litres at your local hair and beauty wholesaler.0
