Rose water

I LOVE the smell of roses
I am looking to buy some rose water for various jobs around the house - in particular, using in my iron and on laundry/bedlinen.
I am sure this used to be available in boots, and wasn't expensive, but I can't find it anywhere.
(Oh, ok I found it in one place for an extortionate price! )
Can any one suggest where to look and what I can expect to pay?
Thanks

waitrose sell Star Kay rose water 118ml for 5.490

£5.49?????? £5.49???????????? Who let you on this site?
English Provender Company do some - should be well under £2 (I think 1.49) for a bottle. I've used it in a few cakes, but I'm not sure you couldn't get a cheaper one for clothes/household use. I bought mine in T***o.
Now, recently I've read how to make rose water...it was rose petals, strongly scented ones, with boiling water on them, then strained...something to do with Victorian/Edwardian ladies and still rooms. I just can't remember where I read it, and it was only a day or two ago. I would bet there's something about it on here somewhere though:DIt is not the greatness of a man's means that makes him independent, so much as the smallness of his wants. (William Cobbett)0 -
It is available in Boots but you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter (I have no idea why) & when I last bought some, about 2 years ago, I had to sign for it!!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

This is meant for baking, but I use their orange, lemon and lime oils to make ironing water, so I assume it would be worth a try?

Can't you make it buy filling a jam jar full of rose petals and then filling it with water, leaving it for ages to mature then taking or straining out the rose petals?
Have a vauge recolection of doing this when I was about 7 - so it can't be hard to do.When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

Is the Star Kay one stronger? I do find the EPC one a little weak - it smells and tastes nice from the bottle (glug glug glug) but there isn't a very strong taste in cakes. Good in icing though.
Can you buy rose oil for food use as you can lemon or orange? It is not the greatness of a man's means that makes him independent, so much as the smallness of his wants. (William Cobbett)0 -
