Rose water

I used to make my own facial toner out of rose water and witch hazel. I bought huge bottles of rose water from Boots for not very much (£2.50 ish for large bottle, but was 10 yrs ago). It's not food grade but if not cooking with it, it'll be OK. Don't know why you have to sign for it now. Stopped making it when ex said I tasted funny!! (Should have kept my facial toner and ditched the ex then - the benefit of hindsight

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I don't plan on using it for cooking, so think I will go for the water rather than the oil.
I like the idea of making it, but I dont ahve a garden and I think that buying the roses will probably work out more expensive than just buying the rose water from the shop - although it could be fun! Thanks Galtizz.
Ticklemouse and JS_other_half I think boots is my next stop and I will ask at the counter this time. Thanks for the tip.
I don't have a waitrose anywhere near by, but think that tescos round the corner stock EPC products. if boots don't have it, i'll try there.
r.macr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I have seen some in Holland and Barrett, off the top of my head, but I buy one as a facial cleanser, here: Survana It's £3.95 for 100ml, but I imagine that would make many many cakes!
I buy that rather than cheaper products, as it's for my skin, and some of the culinary ones are not entirely natural, some just rose scented, or flavoured, with various other things in them. With this one I know I'm getting a good product...I haven't cooked with it, but it smells delicious, and they say it's suitable for culinary use.
As an aside, I buy their organic rosehip oil Here for use under my eyes to prevent wrinkles! It's £1.95 for a 10ml essential oil type bottle, and I've been using mine nightly since November with no signs of running out any time soon! It's a key ingredient in many expensive eye creams, and I certainly wouldn't pay for those, and all the additional rubbish in it! I use it on my neck, too. Can't say whether I'm looking younger, but at least I'm being kind to the skin around my eyes! Said to be good on scar tissue, too.

We just used to walk (OK, skip) up and down the streets picking them up off the floor. I don't think it is quite the right time for roses yet but when it is there will be loads blowing about. Or if there are no gardens around go to your local park, I'll bet you'll find some there. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
I wonder if you can buy rose oil from somewhere like Holland and Barrett that stocks essential oils. I had some once from the Body Shop when they used to do perfume oils and it was very rosy smelling. I make my own ironing water from lavender oil which is lovely (don't know whether the smell lingers on the clothes but it makes ironing more pleasurable!!) Neal's Yard do essential oils too - may be worth a look.0

well, I just nipped out and bought 500ml rose water from Boots for £3.49. I had to ask for it and lady asked me what I planned to use it for. She said someone else had been in for a bottle earlier int he day and she didn't know waht it was!
I am wearing a little like perfum and it smells AMAZING

You can buy Rose Water, for cooking, very reasonably at an Asian store. Will probably do the same job for non-cooking use and could be cheaperWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

If you afford to buy rose essential oil which i have to say can be an extortionate price all you need is a bottle of spring/filtered water and 1 drop of the oil and leave it in a dark place for 2 weeks and then you can use it for whatever you want. Makes great toner for the skin if you don't want to use it for cleaning
you can do this with any essential oils but be careful with lemon if your using it on your face especially in sun light as its photo toxic. If using any oils other than rose and jasmine you would need to use 2 drops as the other two are far more concentrated.

Hi;
After a stay at my granny's house, I need to buy some rose water of my own. I was using it as a toner; and it was amazing!!
But I went to Boots yesterday; and all they had was a pre made up, small, bottle, which wasn't really what I had in mind (it had other ingredients as well).
I spoke to my local chemist; who says he can 'make it up for me'; but I'm really not sure what that means?!? Is there anything else I should ask to get put into it?!?
If anyone can help I'd be really grateful, I hardly ever post away from the DFW board so I hope this is in the right place,
Thanks,
